Your point being ?
That thin client was tried years ago and bandwidth over internet is an issue. I dont make these rules - take them up with ISPs :

Desktop Mac is dead.
No it isn't.
It'll be replaced by the iPad.
No it won't.
It'll be replaced by the cloud.
The cloud won't work.
Me: Yes it will. It makes to much sense from pretty much every angle. Economical,Enviromental etc etc.
Waiting in anticipation for reply.......

Wow, this thing is still going on? I don't feel like going through what I missed and I know someone probably bought up "why can't they just offer OSX by itself?" again. So I'll just say that if Apple ever offers that, it will be the end of Windows and Softmicroware. Apple is doing Microsoft a favor.

Years ago we didn't have internet at all. I still don't get your point. The building of bandwidth is an unovercomable hurdle ? There's some technical limitaion i've never heard of ? What ? Just build more bandwidth, problem solved.
What's your point ?

Here in Sweden 100 mBit/sec flatrate internet accounts is commonplace. My last apartement had it included in the rent. Everyone has it. My mother who's pushing 65 has a 24 mBit flatrate "watch youtube 'til your eyes bleed" account. Costs her like 30 dollars a month or so.

You certainly made a good case for "the cloud" - thanks for your insights about gaming/business/etc... Thank You. :tu:

I still don't think we're talking about 2010, 2011 or even 2012 though. So the question remains: in the meantime will Apple move to produce up-to-date computers or simply let their range quitely languish, with occasional CPU improvements but no fundamental redesign, touchscreen, etc...?

Or it'll be the end of Apple as nearly happened the last time they tried that. Did you miss that the first thing Steve Jobs did was killing the clones ? Don't you know any history ? Where do you get these ideas from ? They just materialize out of thin air ?

Oh thats all right then, dont understand why it hasnt been done before. Oh yes, theres a global financial crisis and companies are looking to save, not spend. So they just have to restructure the whole server architecture to cope - no cost there then. Perhaps you could search the back of your sofa for the small sums involved in the process, thanks so much :-)

Um no, because not everyone will code for osx.

And again, from someone who has played on both sides, I don't understand why osx is touted as better. It's simply something you like better.

@death of macintosh: No, it won't happen because there are too many people who rely on them and apple can always make a profit by keeping the system closed. But the focus of apple is going to be on all the ipad/iphone shit for certain.

There, that should be the end

Well your guess is as good as mine (ah well, almost maybe :hihi: ). Steve Jobs works in mysterious ways. But i don't really see the desktop Mac disappearing anytime soon. I think they read in way to much into that statement.

It is interesting from a business POV to see they haven't upgraded to the latest Intels. Didn't they have some kind of deal with Intel where the top of the range model was for Apple only ? And there's rumours about them switching to AMD.
Could be Intel tried to call their bluff or something like that. People who knows more than me about these things says the AMD move is just ratteling the cage to get a better deal from Intel. Could have something to do with it.
Intel: I dare you to switch.
Jobs: "Hmmm, let them sweat for a while and don't upgrade to the latest CPU".
Or it could not be.

I must be loosing my mind because that makes absolutely no sense still.
Why didn't we build the railway before we did? And why didn't we build the Internet before we did? Is the recession going to last forever ? How is being short on money an incentive NOT to save money ? How about those dinosaurs that cling to their precious server arcitechture going out of business and being replaced with companies adapting to new technolgies that has happened constantly since the first ameoba ?

Ok - money where your mouth is time, email some companies (corps) with your vision and lets see the replies. The cloud (net) has been discussed for years but its yet to be implemented as you see it :-)

Ass duly kicked and Im out - nite folks...
