iPad or BCR2000 or C4?

Hello,
I'm looking for ONE midi controller that I can use to control Cubase 5 with. I like the style of C4 commander and Behringer BCR2000. Last days my attention was focused to iPad. Primarily because of TouchOSC appz:
http://hexler.net
My question is: Will I be able to set iPad to control Cubase5 as BCR2000 and C4 do?
How powerful is actually this TouchOSC application? Is it possible to create a button to select VSTi or FX? As it is on done in Lemur...
I hope that some OSCTouch & iPad users can give some inputs also.
Thanks in advance!

C4 isn't supported in Cubase, however you can use it in conjunction with the generic remote function and the mackie commander software, but then you won't have parameter feedback.
The BCR2000 is very useful in Cubase, as long as you always use insert fx in the same slot nr. it's a very powerful combination with the generic Remote function.
I'm not familiar with the iPad and the touchosc app, however I can imagine myself prefering physical knobs over a touch screen.
Which parameters would you like to control?

Cubase doesn't support OSC so you'll need some kind of bridging software. Mac or Pc ? On Mac you have OSCulator http://www.osculator.net/ on windows there isn't anything as integrated as that but if you're willing to do some work there's ways around it. Knowing how to program is a big plus. Been some years since i used Cubase but with a fully featured OSC-> midi bridge i doubt that there's much you cannot do.

Yeah, I like BCR2000 but you described exactly my problem with it! I don't like to have a "fixed" slot setup in C5.timnl85 wrote: The BCR2000 is very useful in Cubase, as long as you always use insert fx in the same slot nr. it's a very powerful combination with the generic Remote function.
I want to use BCR2000 or iPad to control everything in the same way as the guy here:
So Mixer, FX and VST instruments shall be just a button away. Regardless my slot setup. Maybe I'm asking for to much
That is emulated mackie mode and it works well for Ableton. But I haven't find solution to do the same thing in C5 with BCR2000. Therefore I'm considering iPad with midipad or OSCTouch application.

Yes for Win there is Pure Data Extended and MIDIYoke. I'm just wondering if I can access functions in Cubase5 VSTi, FX etc with it in the same spirit as Lemur works???jupiter8 wrote:Cubase doesn't support OSC so you'll need some kind of bridging software. That would depend on Cubase. But there's nothing the Lemur can access that the TouchOSC can't so the level of integration should be the same. As i remember it the remote control of Cubase is incredibly deep so i doubt there's much you want to do that can't be done.DigiPRO wrote:Yes for Win there is Pure Data Extended and MIDIYoke. OK I assume that OSCTouch (or some middle man) use 2 way communication with host, in this situation Cubase5? If I select specific VSTi, can OSCTouch (again or middle man) automatically load my custom mapping for it?jupiter8 wrote:That would depend on Cubase. I'm not sure why you'd get an iPad when for $300 you can get a 21" touchscreen monitor and put it on it's back (this is what I did) That and a Remote SL and I'm styling.

Very interesting idea! I'm trying to find more portable solution as I'm often on the road. But from the configuration point of view - your suggestion does matter. Because there is nothing to setup, just switch on and voila - all plugs and VSTs are therezerocrossing wrote:I'm not sure why you'd get an iPad when for $300 you can get a 21" touchscreen monitor and put it on it's back (this is what I did) That and a Remote SL and I'm styling.

There are smaller touchscreens but I'm not taking it on the road so that doesn't matter to me. The idea of using an iPad for such things is kind of interesting, but I imagine it'll be a lot better when companies write apps specifically for your need. Right now I'm on Vista 64 so my experience with the HP has been OK but I think it'll be better once I go to Windows 7.DigiPRO wrote:Very interesting idea!
