Just curious, because it's been a long time since I've used them: why do you require it to respond to program changes?

Once I can tell if this is effectively a software Motif [and the omens look good from the videos] then I'll be stumping up the cash pronto...

All I need to know is how advanced the auto-arranger style flexphraser arps are. If they're as good as the Motif's [and by that I mean advanced articulations, useful phrases and hopefully chord recognition] then it's the answer to my prayers. I cannot tell you how useful [from a player's perspective] the arps on the Motif XS are.

Well, I listened to the audio demos and though they sound nice, I am not that impressed. But then, they're just demos made with presets ...

I own Hypersonic 2 and considering the other synths I already have (Zebra, Alchemy, Minimonsta, NI stuff, ...) and the fact that I don't do gigs, I see no reason to upgrade, even at 60% off retail price.
Yet, for someone who is looking for a workstation-type plug-in, this probably the best you can get at the moment.

It looks and sounds great but it's just not for me.

after demo listening, there are a lot of old yamaha sounds from older yamaha synths. probably all acoustic sounds seem to be from old motif and we can find them in today's low cost yamaha keyboards for $200. synths are fine but nothing special and also old. for me second hand library by yamaha. really high quality sounds stayed in current yamaha hardware (motif XS, Tyros 3)...

Simply for programming patches to respond when I wanna take her on the road.I have an old A-50 which acts as a great Master midi controller, (I think Eric from Spectrasonics still gigs with his) anyways I can assign them to it. Plus any synth with p.c.'s just feel more like hardware to me,it takes away looking at the screen,hands on, though I must admit it looks like Steinberg did a great job with the mediabay in it,hopefully it's as easy to use as the real thing.

I had been requesting Yamaha to do an app like this for a few years.I bought 4 motif XS's in 08'did the MR816CSX+MLAN2,all of that,but I think this is more of my speed.As much as I loved their boards, I never like how they integrated them,to the cpu.I always just wanted their sounds!

Perhaps Yamaha will consider putting out a high end midi controller now,one that actually feels like their high end workstations.That would seal the deal.Actually I would invest the same in a all digital setup,via pc,with multiple instances etc.. with no questions asked. This imo is forward thinking.I respect them for putting together what looks to be the best synth/rom workstation in along time. I just hope she runs nice n stable. The 64bit support is gonna ROCK!!! wow incredible

Wonder what Roland,Korg will do now, and if this is enough to bring Access back into the lions den???

Nokendo is a fine example.Lucky Man is sweet too,as it goes through some different voices.Sounds like a Motif,what else is in question?

I'm not so sure I'd call it quits yet,they wouldn't have sold us a Halion One module here,and thats what Halion One was a teaser for this. If you look closely to the Halion Sonic Video 2 , you will see a picture of the XS, this most likely means there will be XS sounds in there,or alike,perhaps some new fresher,or better ones. Yamaha knows what it'll take to sell this plugin.I would wager to say by the demo's they are in there.
As far as Tyros sounds,what makes them sound so good,is the programming.With Vst expression,many things are possible.I'd take that to heart,knowing YOU can possible recreate that Tyros sound,and have it in a plugin. It may take a little work though,sounds cool to me..
Either way I'd give it a chance,before I knock'em down. The filters alone look like it's gonna be a cut above.I'm sure once people get it,they will post their honest feelings. As a Motif owner since the first one,I can easily spot the patch quality,so I for sure will post,but to me they sound great so far.

And besides one patch doesn't make a song.

I've also heard talk of an upcoming HALION 4 that will actually be able to load these Halion Sonic sounds,that's gonna be quite amazing if so.I know one step at a time

Isn't it strange that Yamaha has forgot all of their previous knowlegde.

Why didn't they add FM and VL technology into this workstation? Just plain vanilla VA and ROMpler?

The demos are not bad, but I don't hear anything that I haven't heard before. If Steiney will make an upgrade offfer to current Cubase 5 owners for €99 I'm in, but I'm not paying 249 Euros.

Having just bought the Kontakt 4 upgrade, I don't really need another Rompler, but if the workflow is good the Halion Sonic could be a good arrangement and composing tool.
