Does anyone know if the articulations will be playable in realtime, or only with adjustments afterwards?

Yes, sure they are playable in realtime via keyswitches.

Nice! :)

One thing I wish Halion Sonic could do is be able to sample just to have everything integrated seeing that I would be using it as a sound module.

I will certainly buy the upgrade to Halion Sonic.
But I am not so impressed by the audio demos.
I hope it sounds better thant the demos, that are most a kind of techno songs.
At the moment I think that Hypersonic 2 sounds better for my kind of music style.

I agree. Most of the demos are simply dreadful. I find it hard to believe Steinberg are so incapable of trying to sell a product..

What is so difficult in showcasing single instruments.
For example, I want to hear the flute, oboe, trumpet, bass etc.
It gives you no clue as to how they sound! It leaves you thinking, I wonder why?

I am sure HalionSonic is far better than the demos suggests, but I am left shaking my head that this is the best they can do. I mean who thought up the clever idea of showcasing a 3 second electrical noise. Way to go Steinberg
I will have to be a lot more convinced in order to part with my money!

And just to note I am not knocking HalionSonic, just the PSR 75 quality demos!!

Given that the Yamaha 'Motif XS', which I use and love the the way it sounds, contains (355 MB) of waveform data, compared to Halion Sonic's (12 GB) of sample data. I can't stop thinking about how the Motif XS would sound if it had 12 GB of Waveform data ?!!!

Another question comes to my mind, and that is, could have they duplicated the sounds of the Motif XS in software by using the exact size of ROM waveforms, i.e. 355 MB in Halion Sonic, instead of 12 GB ? or is this not possible, and why ?

I think what I'm trying to figure out here is why does 355 MB in the Motif XS,sound great, or possibly better than 12 GB of Software waveforms in HS ?

After listening to some of the (HS) audio demos, I can't say that I'm impressed, but in general (HS) sounds good.

I also think it is great that there will be future sound expansions available for (HS), since the content is kind of limited to meat and potato type sounds, so future sound expansion kits for World, Orchestral, Voices, Cinematic Effects, Drum Kits, ...etc. would be a big + for (HS).

The data in the XS has special compressed ROM,if it we're uncompressed it would be much larger. 8)

Helge,
Have u any idea,on when it's shipping to the states? 8)

Yes, but I don't think it will get close to even 500 MB when uncompressed, we are talking 12 GB vs a few hundred MB !!!

Actually, according to the Motif XS specs:

355MB (when converted to 16-bit linear format), 2,670 waveforms

Meaning... That 355 MB when un-compressed. When compressed it is less than 355 MB !

I wonder if it would have been possible to re-create the Motif XS sound via 355 MB or sample data only in Halion Sonic, instead of 12 GB. I would love to understand why this is not possible with software instruments ? What's the real secret behind the Motif XS 355 MB waveforms ?

Any clues ?

Info:
I got a mail from Steinberg - Halion Sonic is released.

True, but my understanding is that YAMAHA/Motif XS sound engineers are quite heavily involved in the sound design of Halion Sonic, and they have the luxury of having 12 GB of sample data to design some impressive sounding programs, yet, nothing I heard so far has impressed me.

I still can't figure this out. Surely they could have done a lot more with 12 GB compared to 355 MB in the Motif XS

It wasn't a flippant comment, really. The big 3 have huge experience in PCM programming - the R+D budgets are well recouped by now - but they're master of the program. Not just the raw sounds, but the tight integration of effects, reverbs, careful use of articulations etc. I speak as an XS owner sceptical of Halion Sonic, but wanting them to have got it right so much that I'd be prepared to change my sig....

For me, if they've got the arps righ - like the XS's guitars, specifically - then I've just saved £1200 on another XS.
