Got a couple of quid on an Ibanez Prestige RG, Black ov course. Already packin a pair of EMG's, the awesome edge III trem and second hand means im paying less than half-price

Its sort of a replacement for that ESP i had stolen, Neck-Thru Magahony, Mahagony Body...Etc. but still not too heavy for me to deal with due to my spine condition and mangled nerves Its not as 'pretty' as The ESP Horizon was/is if ever get it back, worth no where near as much but i will play it regular as it suits me better. The major two differences are a very nice brown SB quilted maple top and a locking trem system rather than a string-thru body/tone pros bridge but as you know mate i prefer double-locking trems anyways Black is the new Black

There's a slight chance that I might get my hands on a used Cort EVL Z4 for $150.
It has a few rusty screws on it, and the matte finish is polished to shiny. But it sounds cool and the EMG pickups alone worth that money.
Opinions?

So long as they are not the EMG 'HiZ' non-active variety then yes! Indeed the 81/85 combo or sometimes just a pair of 81's are certainly worth that alone man

Nay, there's the HZ duo. But here they cost $160 in a pair. I'm thinking about the future modifications, and may consider active pickups, but I don't know if they worth it. On youtube I didn't hear that huge difference, and it'd just be a mess to constantly change batteries. And of course, the HZs sound nice to me already

As my guitar looks rather different with the polished black look, I want to put on Tele-style black metal knobs on it. (This is for sure, but dunno when)
Dunno, but when I'll switch the rusty screws I want to adjust the heights of he pickups. Like the bridge would come closer to the strings, and the neck would go further. Advices?

Fair enough and yes i still sounds like a decent deal. If you raise the pickup height and the strings are hitting and sticking to the pickups then you will want to raise the bridge a little or lower the bridge if possible instead of upping the pickups if the action is too high. Then when you have optimum action without buzz some slight intonation via the saddles maybe needed. About 30 minutes work give or take

Argh, I'm pretty afraid of the adjusting when I'll get my screws working. Usually, I'm always second guessing myself and adjust something forever till I bash the sound.

Through w/buying. I still use a Charvel I've had since age 12, now has a Tremol-No on it and the Floyd Rose is nice and stable.

It's a 30 day return policy if I find something not to my liking. So far it sounds fantastic. It's balanced better than the soon to be sold strat and PRS SE. The neck is nice and thin (good for my child-sized hands/fingers) and I LOVE the low profile look

One thing that is a question mark is that those frets are awfully high It's made in Indonesia (would rather have a USA made for sure) and it didn't come with a case.

while not being quite as black as you could rightfully expect , it's a beauty !
Now if it only had a headstock you could check the locking nut for your g-string problem ...
Compare the diameter of d- and g-strings and you'll see what I mean.
Should be easy to fix.

susiwong, you are EASILY one of my favs........but I have no idea what you are saying

when you talking about the different diameter, are we referring to one being plain and one being wound? Do I gotta slip something in there to cinch it down?

Yes, sure, the D is much bigger in diameter than the G, so the lock nut is a well known problem zone with these strings.
No general solution, use your eyes and common sense.
Sometimes it's as easy as rotating the middle clamp by 90 degrees, sometimes a thin piece of plastic or whatever slid underneath the clamp's G-string side does the trick, sometimes it's easiest to get a replacement, they're cheap ...
Bottom line : an annoyance, no showstopper.

Oh, and the missing headstock thing - blame your photos !

If you want to check to see if it's the locking nut, just play the offending string and press down on the string on the headstock side of the locking nut. If you hear a string bend you know it's slipping through the nut.
