[EDIT: Also for those of you actually wanting to learn and not just swing your e-penis around-
stumbled across this article today while trying to figure out whether the hard drives I'm buying are "advanced format" (4k) or not:
LINK

It shows dramatically the performance difference between aligned and unaligned partitions on 4k-sector drives under XP (the worlds most popular OS), in everyday tasks. Be warned-

You make me laugh. You keep saying you're done, but you keep posting! Most people call these discussions, well... discussions or debates. If it makes you feel better to call them 'swinging contests', all the more power to ya. ;) Not sure why you'd feel so 'threatened' to be challenged, but moving on...

You figured out the exception! Good job! ;) Let's put it in perspective though. AF drives are new, (looks like articles started being posted about them around Dec 2009,) and introduced by Western Digital. Out of the 236 interal drives I can buy on NewEgg, only 6 of them have this feature when I search for advanced format. That's 2%. Those drives, yes, you need to make sure you align them properly. The other 230 drives don't matter if you did the alignment or not. Then even those 6, if you were on Vista or W7, it again, doesn't matter. Note - I didn't search external drives.

I'm sure we'll be seeing this as the new norm. For the obvious vast majority (98% of drives being sold as new today, not including the thousands of drive types that are no longer new,) again, it doens't matter. :hihi:

Are you done posting now? I'm betting you're not. You can't stay away. :hihi: :P Seriously, if you do find more stuff that shows some real performance hits for every day desktops that are not SSD, AF drives, and not in a RAID configuration, post please. Still interested in your answers to my previous questions that weren't answered.
