How does the ES1 connect to the DAW

If I use silent way with a motu interface there is a usb or firewire connection to the the DAW and signal is passed to the the receiving device
so how does an ES1 connect to the DAW ?????

The ES-1 connects to the audio interface, not directly to the DAW.

the ES-1 has 8 outputs how does it seprate them out??

8 audio outputs from the interface connect to the 8 inputs of the ES-1.
There are 8 outputs from the ES-1 - one per input.

I have an m-audio 18/14 - will the ES-1 make that usable with Silent Way??

Your M-Audio box should work fine.The ES-1 offers the following advantages over directly connecting an audio interface to analogue gear for CV control:
No requirement for the interface to be DC-coupled.
No need for special cables (e.g. TRS to TS 'floating ring' cables).
No danger of damage to the interface - the ES-1's inputs are completely standard balanced audio inputs.
Much greater output voltage range - up to 9x more than directly connecting a DC-coupled interface via a 'floating ring' cable.
