I'm building up a super collection of best free instruments and fx (My drumset rocks, broomstick bass, Mr Ray, Classic fx, Cheese Machine are my faves)

Looking for a good guitar amp effect. More to add body and twang, rather than out-and-out distortion/overdrive.

I used one called Cortex (I think that was the name) which was perfect, a nice clean amp effect, but it didn't play nicely in Sonar and support was discontinued unfortunately. It was great for not only guitar but for adding niceness to Synths etc.

Many thanks in advance

Haven't tested that many Free amp sims, but I still dare to recommend these two:

SimulAnalog Guitar Suite
http://www.kvraudio.com/get/465.html
Apparently developed by same people who did Overloud TH1

Fretted Synth Free Amp
http://www.kvraudio.com/get/2426.html
Resource hog.

SHRED is imo one of the best free ones out there. 1.5x is just in beta stage atm... which will add dual IR cabs and somoe other very nice features. However, give 1.06 a go until 1.5 is released, it's still really good.

Just for fun, here's a couple of things I've been playing around with. Guitar straight into a UA25 interface and then into Shred 1.5BETA:

I've seen FrettedSynth mentioned. Those were some of my favorites but their website is down at the moment.

+1 for:
- Simulanalog Guitar Suite
- RevolutionZ
- Shred ( my favorite, at present )
- Freeamp

Not exactly an amp sim, but you can give a try to Mokafix No-Amp.
In my opinion, it sounds really good.

Try No-Amp through LePou's LeCab, with custom (think recab and the likes) IRs, it's PHAT!

Yep, I lost the sources in a big accident and my backup harddrive died at the same time (bad luck), so there will never be an update for Cortex.
:(

Cortex is great too. I've forgot it on my previous post.

Did you really lost the source code ?
It's terrible...

Thank you very much for the replies, I had done some searches myself but as always there are some I've never heard of, hopefully some rare gems to try!

That's very sad about Cortex, sorry that you lost the code.

Hey Helium :)

I just want to thank you very much for Cortex/Guitifier and for the great Gapanessor that i use exclusively for taming my guitar noise to this day.

Good to see that you are still alive !
