What does it mean to play an "interval"

I know what intervals are...like the perfect fourth of C would be F, or the perfect fourth of Bminor would be E, cause your counting up 4 notes.
But what does it mean to PLAY an interval? does that mean play in the notes between the Root and the fourth, or only play the root and the fourth or what?
Also, what how can you tell the difference between a consonant chord and a dissonant chord? I'm working on tension.

Interval = distance in pitches between two notes. So you are asking how do you play the distance in pitches between two notes. Without knowing what the distance is there is nothing to play. It is like asking how long is a piece of string?

There are intervals and there are intervals. Intervalactic playing means playing at irregular intervals.
There are also scales and scale patterns. Play a scale straight up and straight down well that is a pattern but more specifically it's a linear pattern. Patterns are sequenced groups of notes that continue.
1235.2346,3457 etc
If someone tells you to play an ascending scale in 3rd intervals you play 13,24.35,46,57,61,72, and on up.

You can also try fun patterns like playing minor third intervals, in a minor third upward progression. Or the same with whole step tones. Try something new!
