hehe, yeah, that's true. They still ought to do a virtual VL-70m, though, since not many people buy the hardware these days and that technology isn't being used in any of their other products.

Audio demo's...?

something just occurred to me......I own Alchemy by CA, and tbh none of the mp3s have ever wowed me as they sound kind of bland for the most part.... but in my studio Alchemy doesn't sound bad, it sounds ok even good (I woudln't say great as it isn't one of my favourite sounding 'engines') but if Halion Sonic becomes like that for me I can live with it. That is the mp3's fail to impress but in my studio it sounds good..

Actually, I had expected something similar. After all, the Motif and computer plugins sell to quite different demographics - I'm one of the relative few that straddles both. In reality, a computer based workstation with the arranger type features would have sold a bucketful - Yamaha have an opportunity to clean up in this market niche, especially with the background proven ability of the PSR/Tyros/Motif series.

Yamaha already licence Steinberg to sell a sequencer that far outclasses that found on the Motif, and a sampler that does more. I'd hoped they would see that Halion Sonic doesn't tread on the Motif's toes, and gone all out to win over the market share.

Need to clear something up, as I have been doing on some other forums. Yamaha owns
Steinberg but Steinberg is still a separate company, for all practical purposes.
Yamaha doesn't "run" Steinberg, they make their own decisions.

It's like NBC/Universal - they own the SyFy Channel but they don't "run" the SyFy
Channel.

I'm Looking forward to read some in-depth HS user reviews, opinions, and hear some user produced audio demos of HS.

So far this topic is 15 pages long, and I still have no way of evaluating HS, no in-depth user reviews, or any user produced audio demos are posted which can put some of the speculations to rest, especially the quality of the acoustic instruments of HS.

OH... and I wonder when will HS be available to U.S. customers ? During July, or August, or .. ?

I just bought Kontakt and even though the software is great I find the included soundbanks very disappointing (and sparse) and I am not interested in buying add-ons. A good demo of Halion Sonic might convince me to dump Kontakt altogether.
I'm keeping a close eye on this.

Really? Funny, cause I consider myself very lucky to have such great sample content as a bonus with Kontakt. Which parts of the library don't you like?

As an owner of all the SampleTank libraries (except for SampleMoog) I find the Kontakt library underwhelming. Very few guitars, very few pianos etc... I didnt buy Kontakt for synth sounds or drums because I have other stuff I use for that. Maybe I've been spoiled by the SampleTank stuff and was expecting too much from Kontakt.

The Kontakt library is 42GB. My full SampleTank Library which consists of 4 main products and all the Sonik capsules and Expansion tanks come to 30GB and I find it to be a much more useful collection in terms of variety.

Obviously Kontakt would be great for someone who doesnt have any workstation type software at all or who has the need for an advanced sampler. But then again I find even that could be replaced by ShortCircuit in many cases, for my needs at least.

All just IMHO of course..

Keep an eye on the marketplace folks...

Oh, OK. I guess we have different tastes then. I also have SampleTank, SonikSynth, MiroslavCE, and a few ExpansionTanks (which I hate), but most of the times I prefer the sound of the Kontakt library.

still strange, we got some folks who got it already up and running but nobody posts some audio. i would have already but i still am not sure about this thing, i guess i will perhaps got to the shop today and test it if i can do it in time...

Very different.... I am like you, but way more overwhelmingly and vehemently, prefer the Kontakt 4 library to the Sonic/IK/esoundz stuff....and for me it isn't even close..
