this is offtopic, a question i have about transferring data from akai disks
and atari disks, so if anyone has any knowledge, i'd appreciate the help.
(no, i had no luck with akaidisk, even when it did work on windows)
(i did a load of mixer maps back in the atari days, and someone might have use for them.)

what do you mean by 'compiling the thread'?: all pages... and plugins? wow.

Calm down, calm down. Let me rant for five minutes.

It is a list compiled from all the links in this here gems forum.

It is primarily Synths or VSTi. I have tried to identify what the links are to, whether they work or not and then tried to find new links if possible.

I have jettisoned most of the effects and wierd links .

There will be some strange shit left in there. There will be links that I cannot find and a whole host of stuff that I just couldn't identify (either didn't have time or couldn't be bothered.

I have downloaded approximately 2800 files and to be honest with you, I'm
fuckin' worn out. I can't be bothered to open every file and figure what is there, though I have open 100's in a quest to refine the list.

It will always be a work in progress. It can't be final, though it may come to a standstill.

My personal over-riding objective is to have a list of synths. I don't care if they are demos or shyte. If you want fx, go do it yourself.

It will take years to actually try these out, and continue to identify the Synths from the other shit.

Consider it a starting point in which you can all help fill in the spaces, and correct mistakes.

If we are going to continue with this mad collection and occasionally unearth
a rare gem we need to know where we are.

All java stuff is shit to me, all linux may as well be from Jupiter.

Oh yeah. There are 7300 links, quite a few have more than one download link. This is for protection of the species. There are about 600 (hopefully synths) that I can't find anywhere and maybe a couple of hundred links that just arent synths.

Soon. Very Soon.

Have you tried either my personal fave and the sample conversion application i use 'Extranslator Extreme Sample Converter ExSC 3' and a demo is available mztk :) and the other application which i know of (there could be more but it is not an area i have had to really dig deep into FWIW) is 'Chicken System's Translator 2' which is available in a free version that is pretty cripled and the full pay version

Hope that helps some my friend

And yes +100% agree on undertaking such a task :-o labour of love for sure, however it just goes to show how important this thread was/is and from its humble beginings into where its at now  it often comes up top of many a google search for example :)

All the best to all

Wow, 7300 links. Anyway, that freebie site today that requires registration is actually decent- http://www.eareckon.com/

The limiter sounds the best to me, I can't use that "sound" anymore, but it is pretty good.

----OK. Got a couple of questions for you guys.

I'm reusing an old Pentium II pooter with a soundblaster card in it--I managed to get another 512Mb ram jammed into it for a total of 768Mb. I got a couple of 100Gb HD's for this---any idea what one could use for the DAW here?

I also recently came across mention of a "ReBirth" RB338 synth and a Virtual Waves 2.0 synth-----any idea where one might find these curiosii? :? :? :?
