Well, that's Astaire and Garland singing 'A Couple of Swells' from the film 'Easter Parade'. (Yes, I'm 'down' with the 'fresh beats'.)Blank_Frank wrote:5.
So they could all be movie musicals, though that would make the 'Singing in the Rain' picture for #2 suspiciously obvious.

Right, I'm going to put my hand up and admit I may have been a bit too cryptic with this one
so here's some clarification. They're all tracks from an album...
Track 1: This is nothing to do with Batman, but he's an example of someone who might take this particular form of exercise, as suggested in the photo.
Track 2: What's happening, and also where the film is set, is relevant.
Track 3: Cinderella would also be someone who took this path.
Track 4: It's an early form of corset.
Track 5: It's not the song (or any song) from the film mentioned above, but another one (also suggested by the earlier picture).
Track 6: A lot of us are going through this at the moment (no, not the recession
),
Track 7: They're not cars, they're American.
Has that made it worse? I probably should have stuck with the anagrams...

Might be too easy, but it is ready to go. Two albums and what they have in common. Ideally you'll find all the answers in the wordsearches, too, but I'm not a stickler.
Bonus question: Which of the two is better?

Debut albums by Northern Irish Bands:
1. Inflammable Material - Stiff Little Fingers
2. The Undertones - The Undertones
The Undertones is probably the better of the two, if for no other reason than the type of persons listening to these groups at that time. Although friends and I listened to both avidly, the Undertones were favored by more cheerful folk. Mind you, Inflammable Material was produced by Mayo Thompson, and he played in a late incarnation of Pere Ubu.
Maybe there's another connection?

Just for the hell of it, really:

So, "fish" was a red herring, then?
Knockman should win, if only for that interesting snippet about Mayo Thompson and Pere Ubu (sadly I didn't get to see them until 1988, by which time he was long gone...)

1988 is also when I got to see Pere Ubu for the first time. I only noteed that because I'd been listening to them earler in the day - research for this month's Music Cafe contest.
I can't be sure all of the answer is found. The 'what they have in common' is contained within the puzzles. I keep looking for John Peel.

"Sprechstimme" eh? I've got to admit the first person I thought of was Mark E. Smith, which brings us back to John Peel again!knockman wrote:1988 is also when I got to see Pere Ubu for the first time. Yep, Knockman got it with his first answer. There might be other connections, but that's what I was going for.
(Not counting the bonus question, which was asked more out of curiosity. I tend to find Inflammable Material better, but it is for me a fairly mood-dependent call.)
