Have you tried turning off graphics acceleration? In the standalone version press ctrl F12 to do this, in the plugin you need to click the dropdown menu - you can just see a corner of it in your screenshot on the left so you might just be able to open it. If you can select setup/graphics and turn it off

slightly less pretty but you will at least be able to use it

So if you want a buy from me I need a offline authorisation method.

Oh it uses online activation? Just ask anyone who's had problems with it, there's too many things to go wrong. G-Sonique had a huge issue with their servers, and ended up going back to serial-only. (I prefer keyfile myself. Better for developer too, since you can require personal data in the keyfile that people don't want spread around, you can also easily invalidate it, and its harder to crack than a plain serial) I don't use C/R software anymore personally due to such problems.

Sorry to derail a bit, this plugin does look fantastic. Alchemy may "technically" be able to do the same things, but its *much* more difficult, and the sonic results are different, and perhaps not as good musically.

I'm probably just reiterating what other folks have already said about this, but maybe it motivates the developer if he hears the same themes being repeated.

First off, make the internal loop start point automatable! Developer had to know that the Reaktor Grainstates ensemble would be the yardstick by which this sort of tool would be measured, so it's hard to figure why it wouldn't include that feature right out of the gate. Particularly when it seems like all the pieces are there (setting the start and end points for internal loops; advanced automation recording).

Secondly, I also agree that if C/R authorization is necessary, there should be an offline option.

Third, I have to agree about the pricing - it seems a little high for a brand new tool still missing at least one crucial feature. Especially when you can occasionally pick up Reaktor itself on sale for nearly the same price.

OK, now for the positive stuff. The UI beats the hell out of Grainstates, and makes it fun to work with. I love being able to drag and drop an audio file right onto the interface and then zoom into the waveform to find something interesting. (By the way, there is an iphone app called iSample made by Way Out Ware that let's you do the same thing, and it's such a blast to zoom way in and scrub through the waveform to find cool loops - no granular synthesis in iSample, though). Built-in recordable automation is intuitive and works great. And so far the standalone version has been very stable for me on two different systems - XP and Windows 7.

That's all I got. Good work so far on a promising little soundmaker.

Automatable loop start point aside I am having a blast with this little sound creation tool, its just so intuitive and easy to play with and makes the whole design process fun and fast. Practically this whole ambient track http://soundcloud.com/savaran/solar was done with four instances of Granite and some pads and short pulses courtesy of Synplant.

No internet connection on my studio PC and definitely not interested in changing that.

FYI version 1.1 is currently under development which will feature loop position recording and an offline activation scheme (plus other improvements).

An OSX version is also being developed and will be released some time after the 1.1.

I read my e-mail and saw that a new version of Granite is out. 1.03. It should fix the incompatibility with certain .wav files, which contains additional meta-info in file header.

The update fixes a bug I reported with certain wav files causing an immediate shutdown of the program. Its fixed with 1.03 for me and hopefully everybody else too. Not sure why James didn't mention the update in here - I think he is relying on emails to customers of the full version to get the word round.
