It's not available outside of Europe yet. Even within Europe, I don't think it's been available for two weeks.

Dan, I don't know if this will help, but the HS manual is here. I haven't read it but obvioulsy it covers the FlexPhraser.

Thanks Ade, I've read the manual cover to cover already - it *suggests* that flexphraser is capable of chordal recognition, and *suggests* that you can use arp latching, but nowhere does it expressly tell you what flexphraser does, or if there are user slots.

Hopefully you'll be able to tell us once you're up and running!

I had a very brief look over the manuals referred to. It does not look like there is auto accompaniment. Haven't seen any obvious hint on cord recognition too.

When I read the comments I feel again this habit of rating "auto" arrangers inferior because they are no "true" workstations... what a nonsense. Don't be fooled by the product separations manufacturers create to handle what they think are different markets. Did you realize that Motif technology and Tyros are quite similar, just filled into different hoses?... I personally never really understood this. Only result is every line of business lacks some of the properties of another and there isn't any "real" workstation at all that can handle all technology of a manufacturers technology portfolio. This is indeed true for all, SW and HW.

Regardless what you use it can also happen with HW and SW that you get bored with what is included and you are looking for something new. I think SW is even more prone to this this, but maybe it's just me who feels this way...

I think one fundamental fault is just comparing foremost sound aspects, maybe recording but forgetting other uses.

One main difference between (auto arranger)"keyboards" and (daw)"workstations" is the way a show is organized. Keyboards support a repertoire that can be accessed randomly without significant loading times. Workstations (HW and DAW) have the project approach and a performance consists of a chain of projects - difficult to change on the fly because loading times usually matters. If you want to play a medley on the fly you might notice the difference strongly.

Just looking at linear DAW recording isn't the key either - usually both types feature that, with more or less comfort... the many Ableton live users indicate that the linear approach isn't the only useful one. Styles are just another useful approach to simply create accompaniment on the fly. There is no difference in using that as a sketch recording and modifying sections, like using loops, arp sequences, KARMA or other technique to get your music done. Why the hell should be just the most complicated one - doing things linear track by track - be the most useful one?

Sure, not everybody needs everything. But what do we end up with? ...with NO integration but a mess of applications - including VST's - doing this and that... There is no workstation (HW or SW) I can just put in the features I want and things are integrated. There is no repertoire management and no management of needed resources to keep me going without nightmare programing sessions and chaining music inflexibly...

Now I hope there is a lot of feedback telling me I am wrong and showing me how to get what I think - hopefully with inexpensive software instead of expensive HW...

...but as far as I understand Halion Sonic will not be the answer, will it?

This is the best explanation from Gerrit about - > Flexphrase" ( a module for driving beats, arpeggios and complex tonal phrases, plus automatic articulation switching..

One thing we will probably agree on, and that is that Steinberg's marketing of Halion Sonic is a classic example of very poor marketing/promotion of a new product.

I wonder where they acquired their marketing skills from ?

At least YAMAHA does a much better job at marketing their products, maybe they should learn a few tips from their parent company.

I've heard the marketing guys are the same that do the support in germany and moderate the official forums. I don't know if it is the truth but it would make sense.

It looks like you can already buy it in the US from Music Studio Direct (they have an Ebay store):

Has anyone here found any other decent audio demo's yet? I find it frustrating I can't upgrade and test it myself..AT least a few demo's and reviews would satisfy the beast till I can..

Would it be possible for anyone that has it to even just render out one note of each of the acoustic sounds so we can hear them?

The name should have been :

'Hell-ion Sonic' :hihi:

Is it possible to pick up a cheap HALion (retail) Player purely to use as an upgrade path? I'm in Europe if that matters. Where is the best place to look? Thanks . . .
