Ok folks .... time for you to cast your votes for the best 'Basic64' only track. Oh, and if you are expecting a seies of chip tune type tracks, think again! ... having previewed around half of the tracks, I am certain de la Mancha will be thrilled at the range of sounds produced by his cool creation.

See thread... http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... sc&start=0

Please listen to all the tracks before casting a vote ... I know it takes a while, but its the only fair way to do things ... Criteria for your voting decision is up to you, but I ask that you take at least some account of the range, nature, use of the synth's sounds in your decisions.

So here's how!
You can either ..... go to the online folder ....
http://www.4shared.com/dir/XnOaJXRy/One ... lenge.html

Here you can listen to individual tracks, and read accompanying notes re. what what was used in their making. You can download individual tracks as you wish.

(Apologies .. due to being on hols at the moment and having limited upload/download speed, it is not possible for me to provide a zip file of all tracks and info. if anyone is able to do this, that would be cool .. but please PM me before you proceed.)

OR ..... you can visit the new One Synth Challenge site! ... here's the link
http://sites.google.com/site/kvrosc/home

Here you can listen, download, read track info, access a playlist, and keep track of the voting. You can also find links to tracks, results and all relevant info pertaining to all previous comps.
This is an excellent resource which I am sure we will use more and more as time goes on. Big thanks to V'ger for setting it up, and all the hard work that has gone into gathering all the links and info together. :)

How to vote .... There are a similar number of entries this time round as last time round. So we'll have the same points per voter allocation, so that's 28 ... and we'll go for a flexible vote system ( like we should have done last time ).

So you have a maximum of 28 points to award
You can give no more than 10 points per track.
You can allocate points to no more than 7 tracks.

You should allocate your votes, in a single post, in this thread ... something like this ....
Track zxy - 10
Track xyq - 5
Track zyx - 5
Track yzx - 4
Track xqy - 2
Track zqx - 1
Track xzq - 1

Reviews, however brief, are always welcome, but even if you can only find the time to add a short comment, then please do! ...it keeps the thread alive, and encourages others to listen/vote. I will do a review when I can grab a bit of time to do the job justice.

**Closing date for votes will be Sun 1st of August**

....Enjoy the music!

Halfway through listening to the tracks. This stuff is awesome!

BBC :wheee:

Post

Just to make sure I understood: coiuld I - say - give 4 points to seven tracks? Or 27 points to one track and 1 point to another?

thanks, V'ger :)
..what goes around comes around..

First things first: This new website is great! Thanks, V'ger.

All Aboard the Fish no Chips - OSCXVII - Yeager: This one just blasts right off! It sounds like a trainload of fish. I really like that '....waaaaarh' sound. Oh, now the arpeggios... this is baddass. This piece is totally comprehensive.

BITS_AND_PIECES-Mac_of_BIOnighT: At first (and for whatever reason), this piece reminds of something by the band, 'Real Life.' After awhile, it sounds like Basic 64 acid rock. I like it when there's a big 'splash' sound, and then the riffing. Going back, the first thing which struck me was the superb kick sound. Fast forward, and there are some tasty riffs. (One thing; the mix on this track may or may not be a bit quiet.) Great track! It's swirling and riffing.

Dreaming Cuyahoga - ouroboros: From high atop in the Andes mountains, we have a Basic 64 shamanic groove. I'm expecting Terrance McKenna's voice to chime in with what happened to him when he drank ayahuasca.

FightForLove-Mulperi: Ah.. something in 'triplets.' If it can be said of such a ('chiptune synth') piece, one can sense the emotion which ties in with the title.

Flea Festival - tattiemannie: Ok, now we're shifting gears and getting really intense, Mannie style. It sounds like a wild, private club where everyone's going bonkers on the dance floor; maybe with aliens in the mix. It's got a lot of elements; one of which is - believe it or not - a seeming nod to Keith Emerson. Like some of your other pieces, this one reminds me at times of listening to ELP records as a 'lad.'

Fun - gravejester: This one sounds like fun; like walking around a carnival or a fair, with ferris wheels and clowns; one of those contraptions you hammer and the thing goes up to try and hit a bell; arcade games, cotton candy, popcorn, roller coasters, and spinning teacups.

Makrogoli - uiiuiiu: This one opens up as the most abstract of the entries thus far (wait, i didn't review my own pieces). After some moments, it gains more and more structure. While the other pieces are 'uptempo,' this is more like Basic 64 hip hop. The thing (sounds like it has tremelo on it) which comes in at around 2:15 really makes it. Outstanding! I really like the way this one closes out.

Steplton: Dang, I think i've been misspelling your name for oh... what several months? Apologies for that. Moving right along, what a great piece this is! Everything about it fits together fairly well perfectly.

Murtceps revenge - The BeatSoul: This sounds to be really quiet mix. It sounds to have a bunch of great tones ('timbres'). This piece is great. It's totally jamming; some of the percussion bits are particularly awesome. To my ears, this could stand to be made louder.

masonbee_Z3R0T0N1N: This sounds like a great club piece. Something like this would fill the dance floor. You've got a great sense of rhythm there.

rainbowtrain_mickrippon: This one flat out jams!

sunflower-deadeddy: Sci-fi sound candy...

Everyone did a great job here. As always, the music is great, and the percussion bits never fail to impress.

No, the maximum points for one entry is 10pts.

So 28pts total, means that minimum of 3 entries must be awarded points, for example :

a - 10pts
b - 10pts
c - 8pts

The maximum of entries that you can give points to is 7, so for example :

a - 4pts
b - 4pts
c - 4pts
d - 4pts
e - 4pts
f - 4pts
g - 4pts

I hope that explains that little bit.

Since I have already made myself familiar with the contest entries I'll go first ( unless somebody posts right when I'm writing this ).

All Aboard the Fish no Chips - OSCXVII - Yeager // 7pts

The song develops smoothly and effortlessly and there is a nice communication going on with different elements and instruments. Through out balanced and well mixed track, I especially like the slight phaser like effect on the hats and the sound structure of the crash ( decay/sustain ), even when the arp sounds are the core of what keeps the track intact and flowing.

Flea Festival - tattiemannie // 6pts

This has some real inner madness that i really enjoy. Very groovy track with excellent percussive elements all around. Kind of mario theme song after taking the right kind of mushrooms. No need to say more...
Well this much : Technically very well balanced otherwise, although I myself would have eased a little bit the compression.

BITS_AND_PIECES-Mac_of_BIOnighT // 4pts

Nice and mellow start that develops in to very catching groove that gradually builds up in to a great play with lead melody in the end.

FightForLove-Mulperi // 4pts

This one has a kind melancoly wipe that I enjoy and some inventive ways to make relatively simple elements work through well thought out melody.

rainbowtrain_mickrippon // 3pts

I like the play with beat and the small basslike sound very much. Overall the track has a lot to offer and the lead carries the song through.

masonbee_Z3R0T0N1N // 2pts

Cool dance track with some interesting sounds and elements. Could have done with less compression.

Steplton // 2pts

Nice 80' synthhero wibe going on here. The horses are loose!

Cheers for the votes and the comments folks :) ... Just realised something though .... I am not able at this time to do a count up .... As you may know, i am away from home at the moment, and doing stuff on the laptop..... and I've left my login details for the KVROSC site on my home PC .. and have no record of it on the lappie. Not to worry though, V'ger can either sort out the count, or send me my login details again :)

Post

Countup is done automatically on the scoreboard now, look here.

Tattie: I sent login to both email and PM here.
