Unfortunately, you are incorrect on this last part.
On a computer that has never had the old AmpliTube versions installed, non-.at3p presets - even with the proper directory structure - will NOT be seen by AmpliTube 3.
They have to be installed at some point for AT3 to know the preset folder exists, and where it is located. You are probably correct, that the software could be uninstalled and AT3 will likely still be aware of the presets (if they remain) because a lot of that stuff is left behind in the registry.
However, if you have a fresh install of Windows, AT3 will NOT see your old presets without installing the old software. It will NOT recognize the proprietary preset file extensions of any AmpliTube edition not installed!
Think about the ramifications of this...
3 years from now, when you build a new computer, you will have to install all your old AmpliTube plugins and authorize them for your new computer just to access your legacy presets. Eventually, you will run out of authorizations for the old plugins, and yet the presets' dependency on them being present may well still exist!
IKMM needs to remove these artificial limitations and support legacy preset loading in AT3 right out of the box, without the need to install obsolete software!

I wrote to IK, and while I sent them a bug report for AT ampsims and Reaper, they told me, very friendly, that if it makes sense they would for sure provide users with additional registrations. So don't worry about that.redshift factor wrote:

Maybe IK had no problem if you sent, say, a bunch of your presets (didn't read the whole thread but I guess you all speak of your own presets here) to someone who owns and runs all AT versions, x-gear and AT3 and so on. Then someone would open the old ones, save them as amplitube 3 presets and send them back to you? If there are not 10 000s, I would surely help you if nobody would mind, and why shold anyone if all included actually own the software.
If that makes life easier, just pm me
Apart from that I can only say again how I deal with c/r software. I bought snapshot drive, a superb cheap image program that seems to work better than alternatives, and so after a crash recover my machine within 10 minutes using BartPE and snapshot drive. This way you save a few re-registrations - and have enough as you buy a new computer or a new OS for which of course your image file would not work, as it's totally legal and nice too

I believe there was mention of a preset import fix in the upcoming version, so please contact support directly to see as I am not directly on the tech support team and don't know that specifically. They can also verify and log any problem and get it into the system for a fix and also do pass along feature requests.

ah k.... That must mean that when you install those products, something gets updated in the registry that let's AT3 know the other product presets exist. Obviously, editing the registry is not a supported approach, but if you want to avoid installing and uninstalling the old products in order to get your old presets, I guess try that. You could even automate that with a .reg file. If I were you, I would go down that road, rather then the way you have been pursuing by changing the filename extensions and getting all confused with the internal module names.
I agree this is not really an acceptable solution from IK though.
I agree, if that is the case, its a pain to have to install and uninstall those products. Sounds like AT3 is oh so close now, just just barely missed the window somehow on enabling people to load their old presets without having to at least initially install or have installed those other products.
Note to IK:
An import feature would also be a perfectly fine idea, but please, don't make it a one at a time deal. Having to import old presets one at a time would be an EPIC FAIL. Either we need batch convert or else simply make it possible to dump those old presets into the AT3 presets folder and have AT3 figure out by looking at the filename extension what kind of preset it is and convert it automatically. Or let us specify the alternate locations of the old presets and convert automatically. That is actually what is happening right now already when we install the old products and uninstall. The alternate preset locations are saved somewhere and AT3 recognizes those as locations of old presets and automatically shows them and converts them as they are loaded.
Also, I have noticed, currently the old presets in the old locations, while they all load fine into AT3, they do not show up in the preset browser. So make sure the new functionality you are adding will provide a way that they will end up in the browser, preferably with a tag indicating which product they originated from.

Although AT3 has a ton of distortion pedals already, there is one more that needs to be in there: the MXR M-104 Distortion+!
This is a pretty significant pedal historically, and should not be overlooked.
Randy Rhodes, Dave Murray of Iron Maiden, Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols, and even Jerry Garcia (just to name a few) have all used this pedal as an important component in their signature sounds.
It has no tone knob, nor does it need one.
It is a straight forward, no frills overdrive that has the perfect balance for classic crunch.

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

If we're talking about adding models I would say its short Amps obviously.redshift factor wrote:Although AT3 has a ton of distortion pedals already, there is one more that needs to be in there: the MXR M-104 Distortion+!
.
Something it NEEDS..
is a decent VH style PLEXI
and something like a Bogner XTC
AMP3 does not cover these 2 sounds(you cant get some XTC sounds with the Orange). But these 2 would make this thing complete as far as all popular flavors of distortion. The XTC alone would cover so much ground amp3 doesnt cover. Also, without a VH plexi you cant get a real poweramp sag sound on Amp3.
Thats the key. You dont need to model a hundred amps. All you need is to cover all the different flavors of distortion available. When Im tweaking these 2 amps are pretty the only types I cant dial in convincingly

Are you talking about the flabby low end as can be heard prominently on Unchained, resulting from a combination of Eddie underpowering his Plexi with a VariAC and down-tuning a half step?johnrrrrrr wrote:Something it NEEDS..

I've been working on a =VH= "Brown Sound" preset with the Plexi. I've pretty much nailed it, except for the flabby bottom. I have gotten pretty close on that front with the JMP. I think it can be done on the Plexi, too.

I'll put it on the Preset XChange when it's ready.
