I also have EI 1 and 2 and it doesn't bother me at all that NI are now giving them away.

Not to mention that now that they are part of the factory library, users are free to post modifications of these instruments to the User Library and smashup macros from jewels like fast FX and Metaphysical Function!

what have i done wrong

a 700meg d'load only becomes a 195 meg install...can't find the new ensembles, and i can;t see the option , when re-installing to tick for additional library

I'm in the same situation about the electronic intruments expansions and I agree that NI does not really care for its loyal customers.

and yet the 5.5 upgrade is completely free. seems like an almost foolish (from a business perspective) level of doting on loyal customers who mostly haven't paid NI for reaktor since they bought it back in 2005.

in other words, i can't believe that people are complaining that ni is being somehow disloyal by giving away products for free. but that might be because i don't have EI I or II and i'm pretty excited to be getting them gratis.

i bought them , as well ...
i got the use of them for 4-1/2 years ...

seems very generous of NI ...
i'm happy for those that get this benefit ...

Why are all the NI new instruments 10.5 Intel only for Mac?

Because Apple's dropped PPC support with their latest OSes, and if there's an issue on Apple's side, it won't be fixed.

UB was announced in 2005 as a transitionary solution until they switched over to completely Intel- that was five years ago.
Five years in the computer world is three generations, amd an eightfold increase in processor efficiency.

Possibly, but now that Reaktor has finally gotten some much-needed attention (and Kore and Komplete are integrated once again!), my NI hunger will be satiated for a very long time.

People already are but there's an important clue in Stephan Schmitt's op:

Some of the most important improvements in Reaktor 5.5 are "under the surface", more than 30% of the code is new. The new version is based on our latest GUI and audio bridge frameworks, so it has a more flexible and robust technological basis. This also brings advantages like a full-screen GUI mode, higher quality of sample rate conversion, and up to 40 audio channels in standalone mode.

Reaktor is their oldest and most complex product with no doubt a lot of legacy code. They have completely rewritten over 30% but I suspect they felt it necessary to go through a transitional version before making the leap to version 6 and no doubt 64 bit.
