I've got an ESQ-1 and I'd be more interested in a modern version (24 bit samples, more waveforms, oversampling etc) than I am an exact emulation. The original sounded great in it's day but now it's pretty nasty and not in a good way.............

great stuff - thanks for uploading it to rapidshare
. i still can't believe how well it emulates the hardware. i love the vocal quality of the filtered white noise in sq8l7

Not sure what you mean by that, but if you are referring to the voice and choir sounds; there are actually two voice samples in the Ensoniq wavetablesdo_androids_dream wrote: love the vocal quality of the filtered white noise in sq8l7
Back in the days when I bought my ESQ-1 (I bought it new shortly after they came available) the choir sounds where among the reasons to get one (I was a member of a progrock band at that time

That would defeat the whole purpose of an accurate emulation. The Ensoniq synths wereTeksonik wrote:I've got an ESQ-1 and I'd be more interested in a modern version (24 bit samples, more waveforms, oversampling etc) than I am an exact emulation. cool precisely because they actually sounded..well, terrible but in a cool way. Very
grainy. metallic, noisy - that was the vibe. A modern version would be a new synth,
not an Ensoniq emulation anymore.

was thinking the same thing, about it defeating the purpose.Dave Polich wrote:That would defeat the whole purpose of an accurate emulation. But I don't think they sound terrible, not even terrible "in a cool way". I think they sound really good. Their filters were fairly musical, their waveforms were widely varied and flexible. Some of the string sounds you can get out of them are sublime, and as for good punchy, simple bass sounds I actually prefer these to the yamaha DX stuff.
But of course, "good" is pretty subjective in this particular context, so I don't mean that your opinion is at all invalid.

it's the sound that comes in immediately after the first chord at the beginning of the track. sounds like noise through a formant filter to me. doesn't strike me as a choir like sound - more like someone exhaling!crimsonwarlock wrote:Not sure what you mean by that, but if you are referring to the voice and choir sounds; there are actually two voice samples in the Ensoniq wavetablesdo_androids_dream wrote: love the vocal quality of the filtered white noise in sq8l7

Has the Commercial version of the SQ80 VSTi ever been released yet? It was suppose to be release like 2 years ago from what I remember?

iirc it was a student project. He's probably got a real job and no time for plugins or KVR.
