Hi Maruuk,

I don't know of a 'global' solution (meaning one you could use with all different audio software), but I am pretty sure that if you were to use Reaper to do your tracking, you would find a MIDI plug-in that would do what you want.

If you don't find such a plug-in, I would be willing to try to write one for you.

Personally, I like the idea that each string sends note on different MIDI channels - it allows you to split things up into different instruments.

As far as the low-velocity notes associated with the button presses, I think many DAWs offer that type of filter, you only have to set it up.

I know, it's not a simple, out-of-the-box solution, but I'm pretty sure you can get it working well for you somehow.

Thanks, MA. I have Reaper so I'll hunt around for a plug-in filter.

No problem. Here's a good starting point:

Thanks, I see midi editing, message converters, etc but no midi filters. What is the thing called that will do for the EZ-EG what I want it to do? I always considered it a "midi filter" but there may be other terms for it.

It's late, and I'm tired, and I had to delete a long reply I just tried to make.

There is a plugin that should do all that you need, called "MIDI Tool". It appears that the author had a falling out with the Reaper forums, and has removed his plugin files.

I imagine they are still available, but it looks like finding them may take some work.

At any rate, if you can get the "MIDI Tool", from the interface, it appears that it will do the two things I think the yamaha needs from your perspective - ignore note on messages with low velocity, and place the notes from all 6 MIDI channels into one.

Going to bed now, maybe I'll make more sense in the morning :).

Excellent, I will seek the midi tool beast. Yep, the <20 kills and the channelizing into one ought to do the trick! Thanks much!

Hello All,

I've recently added the ability to control Guitar Hero Like Games on the PC. Free games like Frets on Fire and Fofix can be played using your Yamaha EZ-AG or Yamaha EZ-EG guitar.

Always looking for new ideas and suggestions.

Thanks

[quote="tigweld"]All,

If you run Windows and have either the Yamaha EZ-AG or Yamaha EZ-EG or any other MIDI Guitar, please consider doing a little BETA testing for me.
I'm open to any ideas to make the product better.

To signup for the beta goto:
http://www.cereustech.com (http://www.cereustech.com)
Signup for the forum.
Then follow the instructions on the Contact Us page.

The software allows you to create/edit or import Guitar Tabs(Guitar Pro/PowerTab) and has special playback and training modes that take unique advantage of your midi guitar. Sound output can be Midi or SoundFonts.
In addition, the software includes some games and a complete game api for building your own games.

Thanks

[quote="tigweld"]I've written some software specifically for the Yamaha Guitar.
Its a Guitar Tab Editor/ Player and Training software written to take
advantage of the two-way communication of the guitar.
I've even thrown in a couple games you can play by using the guitar as the controller.

You can see the video on youtube.

Hello all,

Decided to do some home recording but as a guitarist and pretty useless at keyboard needed something to input MIDI tracks. Had an EZ-AG for quite a while and have used it live on piano with tuning cranked down an octave and its pretty effective so imagine my surprise when I came across this thread full of the joys of making it work for recording. Problem is I've tried to utilise the scripts from marc and Markleford to suppress triggering when buttons are pressed and just can't get em to work. The combination of the 6 channels isn't a problem as Reaper combines them. I've installed both apps with Midi Yoke onto a Vista machine but they don't seem to do anything at all (tried swapping around the IN's and OUT's). Midi Ox is showing data coming from the AG which drives Reaper direct anyway. I also tried the JS plug in Midi Tool II in Reaper but cant change the velocity of the button presses. I would be extremely grateful if any one could point me in the right direction.

Pop.

You can try this plug I made, it works on the midi, not sysex.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/mortizhzkke/RobotArms.rar

It automatically filters out the low velocity fretted, but not picked notes, or you can boost velocity for tapping, you can limit note-on time, transpose, force a mono stream, and randomize the octave played.

It's Windows only. This is what I use, although I got in on the Ez_G standalone/sysex plugin when it was available, that's literally the best option, but you can't get it now.

Hi All,

I recently got my ez-ag off ebay, bought a midi-usb converter and a power supply coz the batteries only seem to last a day. I plugged it all in an after dicking around with in in-outs I was getting some sounds from my VSTi's within Cubase4(whoo hoo)! But since then I go into Cubase and it either doesn't recognise the midi data that is being passed to it or it does but only for a while and then completely dies. On some occasions it crashes Cubase4. I also have an M-Audio Keystation 61 controller and it losses connetion at the same time. I have tried all kinds of things, updated my XP to the latest patches, cubase is on the latest patch. If anyone can shed some light on why I'm getting these issues I would be very gratefull.

Thanks

Simon.

A MIDI driver shouldn't crash a daw, I mean unless it was old and non-updated or something. Which midi to usb cable is it?

You could download midiox and play your ez-ag into it, seeing what happens when the midi dies, it's give messages, but if the driver just gives up that's not going to tell you much.

Sorry if this has been covered somewhere else but.... this thread is a little beyond re-reading at this point! Anyway, every once in a while I'll bust out the old ez-ag for some recording when it's especially suited to a task. It's actually been a while and I have a little netbook I was going to give it a shot with. Plugged in direct (w/o and scripting) and yes it worked as before just with too many false triggers. Went to re-donwload Markelford's script (thank you again Markelford for that!) and set it up as I'd done before using the Sound Forge virtual Midi router and am having some problems that hopefully might ring a bell with someone. In a nutshell what I'm seeing is (seemingly regardless of which preset I use) pressing the buttons generates a midi note being sent (though on the screen it says the velocity is 0) but plucked notes don't do anything (aren't registered on the screen at all). So basically any righthand activity seems to be completely filtered. I'm guessing filtered because as I mentioned it does produce notes when I plug in direct w/o the script.

Like I mentioned I have used this script before so I know it should work, just wondering if maybe something else I may have setup wrong could be impacting it... thanks in advance for any help..... Chris

PS - for RunBeerRun, I tried your midi plug-in which I'd really like to use (so thanks you too for building it) but had issues with multiple notes being triggered when I plucked a string. Basically if I plucked string 6 for instance, any other buttons for any other strings that would get pressed within a brief period of time would also trigger at the same velocity (it seemed) as the original plucked note. Not sure if that's how it supposed to work or if it's related to my system being screwed up (seeing how Markelfords script is not working right and I know it did before).

Greetings all!

Would someone be willing to write an AppleScript or something similar which does for OSX what the "tencrazy" and the "midix eg" software do for PC?

MidiPipe doesn't cut it.

I will pay.

My Very Best!

Karan

Karan
