Hi Peter,

oh, of course! Great idea. This is a nice workaround for all Electri6ity user who have the full Kontakt version. The script you mention is one of the factory multi scripts that come with Kontakt 4.

You don't even need to load a double tracking multi to access this script.

Simply click on the button right to the '49-64' and left to the 'AUX' button (the paper roll button). Now select the 'Factory -> Harmonize -> Chord' script and set it to fifth. After that you'll have instant power chords which can be played with one finger.

here is my first atempt at playing virtual guitar with Electri6city

Post

I've been using simulated guitar sounds, for the better part of my career.. and it seems technology has finally caught up with me, in terms of overall 'realism'.

My best personal effort in guitar sound design, was a sampled and tweaked (direct input) electric into a hardware sampler, then routed through a rockman. My most recent was for Propellerheads, Reason software ('Hellspawn Guitar', in the stock Factory Soundbank).

A bunch of companies caught my attention lately with a similar concept.. the most convincing demo's, from various companies, including: Prominy, Orange Tree, Impact Soundworks and Vir2.

Vir2's Electri6ity 'Metal' demo's sounded a bit synthetic to me.. but the more, middle of the road, Rock styled stuff really shined. So between that, the ease of use, and the sheer number of guitars offered in one package.. put Vir2 on top for me.

Figured there was a lot of potential there to tweak the stock guitar patches, to fit my needs.. given what I was hearing in the cleaner guitar demo's.

So, I bought Electri6ity.. and after adding in all the cpu hungry stuff, that is generally off by default, on all the patches (sympathetic resonance, more noise, various 'Humanize' settings, etc..), the realism really began to surface.

I'm really happy with what I can do with this VST.. but there's a few additions I'd like to see in the future:

1) Feedback On/Off: Automatic and/or controllable (for DI patches only).

I've been simulating fake feedback in a variety of ways on my own guitar patches over the years. Usually just a slowly fading in sine wave, an octave up.. will do the trick.

I know this can be done already by just stacking another synth with Electri6ity and routing them both through an amp sim w/distortion.. but it would be cool if that feature was just included in Electri6ity already.

2) Mut->Sus->Pinch Harmonics Velocity Switch: In addition to the other PH mode .

Might look like this in the Settings > Keyswitches Section:
[V] Muted->Sustain->Harmonics Oct. (Mut.Sus.<->Harmonics Fifth) [AMT]

Basically the same as the muted (not half muted) Muted->Sustain mode, but with the addition of Pinch Harmonics at the highest velocity (127).

And/Or a temporary [Forced] keyswitch to bounce back and forth, from whatever mode you're currently in.. to pinches, and then back.. when you lift the key.

3) Ghost Notes [Trigger]: 'Chucka-Chucka' style.

I'm editing a lot of these into my sequences.. and would really like it, if there was an option, as a Trigger styled keyswitch.. like the chucka's, mutes and strums currently available:

Might look like:

[F] Ghost Note Clean
[F] Ghost Note Dirty

A [Forced] temporary keyswitch option for Ghost's.. would be nice as well.

4) Electri6ity METAL Edition: Vir2 probably already has something like this in mind.

Either a whole new package.. or maybe the ability to buy new guitars ($50, or so, a piece) and add them on, somehow, to the existing Electri6ity package.

I'd like to see Metal styled guitars represented: Jackson, Ibanez, ESP, Dean, PRS, Schecter, Hamer, LTD, etc..

Maybe try to snag an exclusive, custom made guitar.. like Michael Romeo's (Symphony X), Caparison.. for a sample session. :D

Hi progtronic,

I'm glad you like Electri6ity and thanks for your detailed report! It's very helpful. Let's see what we can do in the next update.

Hi everybody,

I have two new demos for you. Actually they are not completely new, but each of them has a different lead guitar tone now. They show how flexible you are when using a DI recorded guitar.

I already posted this one (using the Strat with vintage lead guitar tone):

Autmn - by Przemyslaw Kopczyk

The two 'new' demos are using the Les Paul with a modern lead guitar tone:

Same demo with Les Paul - Front Pickup

New Electri6ity review from FutureMusic Magazine:

"A comprehensive and intelligent library that impressively meets all electric guitar needs… a phenomenal library and certainly represents the most comprehensively sampled and organised virtual guitar system I've seen to date." - FutureMusic

Have to add another feature request:

5) Faster Mutes/Palm Mutes: Really fast, Rammstein style, mutes and palm mutes.

This could probably be tweaked in the current Electri6ity library without creating new samples. Adding the ability to adjust an amplitude and/or filter envelope decay and release, to the mutes.. through a Calibration setting, might work.

The: Settings > Playing > Playing | Muted Tightness | Chords/Notes option.. even at its tightest setting.. isn't quite fast enough.

The ability to tie that to a [Trigger] keyswitch and an [AMT] setting CC (mod wheel for example) would be great.

Meanwhile.. I'm going to look into Impact Soundworks 'Shreddage' to fill that occasional need.

Hi Benjamin,

It would be cool if you could share the MIDI files and settings used for the Power Metal demo, I wish to do some experiments with it and test with some other libraries too if possible.

Any chance ?

Would really like to know how he's getting those fat, chunky mutes.. I swear, I've tried everything. Must be a setting I'm missing somewhere.

i've tried this before, but the problem is the script triggers a fifth in ALL range of the keyboard, and if you are playing and want to use the strums and all the keyswitches other note will be pressed automatically too and mess your playing...

:(

I think the secret to this fat tone is more the guitar/amp setting combination - and not so much the way you setup Electri6ity.

As far as I know Javi mostly used the freeware amp TSE X30
( http://www.theserinaexperiment.net/plugins.html ) with the freeware LePou Cab simulation ( http://lepouplugins.blogspot.com/ ) and the freeware overdrive pedal TS Secret ( http://www.bteaudio.com/software/TSS/TSS.html ) - but he also used Metal Amp Room (I assume for the leads or the bass).

As guitar he used the Telecaster tuned down quite a bit 8) plus double tracking to get this massive sound.

And don't forget to download the Electri6ity 1.1 update and the realism guide (read the last paragraph about metal guitar) here:

Here is another guitar/amp tone test by Javi Perera using Electri6ty to play deep (and again using the Telecaster to get the 'twangy' raw sound):
