Just got this in an IL email, seems I got a few weeks to save up!

About Vocodex:
Vocodex is probably the most versatile and definetly one of the best (if not, THE BEST) vocoders ever made.

With the right settings and the right carrier it's definetly able to do "that early 80's Electro Funk/Hip Hop type vocoder", though I haven't managed it to do yet.
Probably I haven't got the carrier right yet.

I can post some vocodex-examples tomorrow if you like.

It's definitely the best vocoder plugin available. Sound- and featurewise. None of the competition really competes with it.

i, by the way, give Vocodex a thumbs up. hopefully now that IL is slowly venturing into x64 land, they will make a 64 bit version of it in the near future. it needs it

OK, my love of vocoders got the best of me (oddly I don't use them as much as I love them) and while I'll say that Vocodex sounds very good, if you're looking for a classic old school analog sound, this is not it. It sounds great, but very modern and digital. Not that that is a bad thing, it just is. Elosis Vocoder is still king for emulating a vintage vocoder. Hands down.

I feel like I'm missing something with Vocodex... I can't figure out for the life of me how to control the keyboard (notes). Maybe I should crack open the manual...

OK, figured it out. Does sound good, I must say... a no brainer for $50

I believe that the carrier synth in Vocodex is a simplified Sytrus, so will most definately be more digital. It'd be interesting to see the result of routing something like Synthsquad or Vaz as a carrier.

i swear by the ELS ! best software vocoder i've ever coded ! mind you, i'm a total vocoder freak (and have been since the early 80's). if you like the old Sennheiser and/or EMS vocoder sound go for the ELS !

Although you're probably right, you're talking about $285 vs $49.

I have a few other alternatives on my hard-drive. This one stands head and shoulders above all of them put together. I think a genius must have coded this.

I've tried VirSyn and Eiosis but their vocoders did nothing for me personally.

well... that's not to say that Vocodex isn't the best value for money vocoder.. it is a fantastic piece of gear for the money for sure ! however, the Eiosis piece is the only that can really compare to the original hardware beasts imho.

I was judging it on my own personal taste preferences. Hardware is clearly 'not my thing' when it comes to vocoders. At least not yet. I do love eiosis for EQ, transient Design and De-essing though. So much so, that over a long period of time, I managed to acquire all three of them.

Can we discuss Image-Line Vocodex as it on sale for $49 for a while!
