Hi,

Has anyone had the chance to compile the MDA Plugins -> VST 3.1 versions???

I have been waiting for these to be converted to VST3 for ages!

The TalkBox / Envelope Follower / Vocoder would be excellent with SideChain abilities.

I have downloaded the VST 3.1 developer kit - but as an inexperienced programmer - I wondered if anyone knew where I could download the .vst3 plugin versions?

Or do I have to compile them myself?

I just thought - the source code might not allow side-chaining...

Are these just the 2.4 plug-ins which you can compile using the new SDK?

Maybe Paul hasn't updated them.

I haven't looked too deeply into the code or played with the plugins either. But It looks as if they are ported to VST3. I've looked at the source for mda dynamic and it's just got a stereo in and out no sidechain input.

Also it's not using the VST2.4 wrapper as they've gone a wrote it directly for VST3. But I suspect there is not much difference between the 2.4 versions and this.

Sweet! Just checked the source for that one and can see the extra input. So they have made some adjustments then nice

Unfortunately - I can't see the Vocoder in there....

Most of the effects are there...in various folders...

MDA Vocoder is missing...

MDA Envelope isn't there either...

In fact - they left the vocoder out of Cubase 5 for some reason...

The thing is - they sound great with stereo side-chaining...

I used to set it up manually in EnergyXT so that I would have 2 x MDA Talkboxes

I would split a synth L/R - and a vocal L/R - and create a stereo vocoder effect that way!

The MDA Envelope was great for creating trance gates - triggered by Hi-hats...

I used a similar technique to get that working in stereo...

it comes up as mda.vst3...how do you open it? is it an archive?
tried opening it with winrar as a .zip as well as a .rar, no dice...thanks mate

It's not an archive but the actual binary. If you are on a x64 machine you need to put the file in.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\VST3

If you're on a standard 32bit machine use.
C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3

Also you will need of course a host that supports VST3. I use FLStudio but have found if you're running 9.1 it's lacking some bits such as GUI for interfaceless plugins. Luckily this is fixed if you run 9.5 Beta and install the latest VST wrapper provided in the IL forums.

Yeh - the .VST3 is the actual VST plugin.

That's how they are stored - as opposed to the traditional DLL files.

However - Cubase sorts them out as if they were separate plugs and categorizes them.

So you'll get the MDA Multiband in the Dynamics folder, MDA Talkbox in the Other folder, etc...

What we are lacking is the Vocoder (Talkbox is available) and MDA Envelope, unfortunately...

But then again - there is already a Cubase Envelope follower plug in which comes with Cubase....it might be an update of Paul's original plug...just a guess...

I should have thought of that! doh!

Hi guys,

Quick note on an oldie here

I've managed to compile the MDA plugs from the VST3 SDK, and it generated 4 files on my 64 bit system, at C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\VST3\Steinberg:-

- mda.exp
- mda.ilk
- mda.lib
- mda.vst3

They're just not showing in Cubase 5.5.3 when I try to insert an effect.

Any ideas as what's up would be much appreciated....

Seems you compiled a version with incremental linking support.
You only need the .vst3 file.
The rest can be ignored.

Thanks for coming back to me.

However it's still not working.

I moved the other 3 files to a sub folder in the same directory, but they're still not coming up in Cubase.

In a previous post someone mentioned it should be in the VST3 folder. The compiler placed it in a VST3\Steinberg folder, but either doesn't seem to enble the functionality.

Please let me know if you have any more ideas!

I have a feeling this could be because I'm trying to run it in a 64 bit version of Cubase.

Can I send the .vst3 file to someone to test in a 32 bit version of Cubase 5.x?

5.5.3 if possible
