About Vocodex:
Vocodex is probably the most versatile and definetly one of the best (if not, THE BEST) vocoders ever made.

With the right settings and the right carrier it's definetly able to do "that early 80's Electro Funk/Hip Hop type vocoder", though I haven't managed it to do yet.
Probably I haven't got the carrier right yet.

I can post some vocodex-examples tomorrow if you like.
Nice video, Transformers, Robots in disguise! Love it!

If Vocodex can sound like that, we'll, I'm Chillin' 8)
This Tranformer-Voice is an easy task for vocodex.
What I meant was that vocoded drumloop in the beginning. Later he plays it without vocoding for a short time, so I have that. But I just don't know what to do with the carrier to get that sound (it seems I don't even get the notes right).

I believe that the carrier synth in Vocodex is a simplified Sytrus, so will most definately be more digital. It'd be interesting to see the result of routing something like Synthsquad or Vaz as a carrier.
I was fiddling with vocodex this morning... definately been on my wish list for a bit. I noticed that you can load Sytrus presets right into the Vocodex inline carrier synth just by dropping the FST file into the synth => preset folder wherever you installed vocodex. Cool!

I've had my eye on Sytrus for a while now too, but couldn't justify the expense based on the wealth of similar FM/hybrid dealios I already have... with this $50 deal I decided to give the demo another spin. In FL I created a few nice pads fairly easily... the only problem, IMO, are those teeny tiny sliders. :? Not good. But overall, I was pleased with the editing. Saved off those FST files for when I get the thing registered, and earlier today decided to see if I could get vocodex to load one of those FST files... just drop it in the proper folder and it shows up in the carrier patch selector thingy! Very nice.

For those having problems in SONAR, I was testing vocodex today with SONAR Pro 8.5.x. Had a couple of lockups and CTDTs, primarily when futzing with routing while the thing was running... but overall it was pretty stable and performed well (on a pretty old setup). There are a couple of ways to setup vocodex in SONAR, and they're both a bit convoluted, involving multiple audio tracks + MIDI, special sidechain config, etc... But I did have it set up both using the inline carrier synth controlled by a MIDI track, as well as a seperate synth + MIDI as carrier (plus audio track for mod in both cases). The trick in getting vocodex responding to MIDI is to go into plugin properties (w/in SONAR) and set "enable as synth" or whatever it's called... Then you drop an instance of vocodex as a synth into an FX bin of an audio track (you don't add it via synth rack). Then, depending on how you have sidechain configured in vocodex (either carrier or mod can use sidechain), you route the output of your mod track to the audio track containing the vocodex synth instance in the FX bin. Then you can route the output of a synth track directly to the sidechain inputs of vocodex. Swap that around if your carrier/mod setup is reversed. Also, drop the external carrier routing altogether if you're using the onboard carrier synth -- drop vocodex as synth into the FX bin of the mod track, and control from a MIDI track. For sidechaining, take a look at the SONAR track output dropdown... you'll see that besides the normal hardware out and bus/send selections, there's another option for outputting to "other tracks" or whatever it's called. When you have an instance of a plug with sidechain inputs, you should see the plug in that drop list, and that's how you get the sidechain into vocodex from an audio track. Definately a little confusing.

I had a separate issue with Sonar for the ELS and The Vocodex demo in that I had to amend the registry to get them recognised as synths. Just doing the change in Sonar did not work.

Thanks kbaccki, I'll dissect your post and try a few things out.

Can you reproduce this? If so, how?

And is it the 32bit or the 64bit version of Sonar?

I wasn't sure if anybody was having an issue with the routing end of it, so I provided a bit of detail there. I can post a few screenshots if necessary.

32bit, latest 8.5.x Producer. I can try to reproduce some of the behavior. Keep in mind this was on a pretty old box, so lots of factors there in terms of load on the mix engine.

No issues as of yet. Just starting with the plug-in so any details is always a benefit and great help.

Can someone explain this 'carrier' thing, when I set up TAL - Vocoder I used it as an effect on an insert channel, and used a midi channel to effect the audio, I see that people are using synthesizers also with the vocoder,

btw, I learn't how to set up a vocoder on youtube and took notes, it worked, but didn't go into synths as carriers, what is this?

I'm gonna get Vocodex though! While that ELS one may be better it's not in my price band...

Going to grab vocodex myself. Though I adore warmverbs vocoder. Super evil sounding and Markus added MIDI note control. Really bad ass sounding. I also adore vocodex and am tickled to get it on sale. The reason vocoder and ableton vocoder are also nice.

FL is becoming the super vocalists DAW with the vocoder and newtone pitch to rival vvocal and melodyne. Gol never ceases to amaze with his coding skills. f**king ninja!
