EnergyXT deleted my song

My band was just putting the finishing touches on our song, when the program froze up. I thought it was no big deal I had been saving it periodically so i clicked out of the program after 5 minutes of waiting. I click back into it to find the whole song had disappeared. I have looked all through my computer and cannot find a trace of the file.
So what went on here?????

Honestly,
XT2 does NOT remove the project file and the audio folder etc. for a song in the case of a crash. It may though leave the project file in an unusable state.
I surely do not hope that the latter is the case with your song.

Therefore:
Try to find the song again.
It should still be on the harddisk or any USB device...
Sure you remember the name you gave it correctly?

Technically seen, deleting/removing files/folders from a harddisk/USB drive is code that a program must execute. Normally there is little chance for a program that just froze to execute such code.

The same thing happened to me a couple months ago. I was using 2.5.3 beta.

Pain in the ass.

I was re-recording some vox on a song that had previously being successfully saved lots of times. lets call this version 2.

So I was working on version 2, adding audio tracks, periodically saving (overwriting on the same filename), and when finished i thought i now had version 3.

energyxt did not crash on me, but i do seem to remember that i had to fix the filename i was saving to because i accidentally pressed the keyboard.

anyway, next time i booted up XT2 to mix my song there was no sign of what i recorded.. in fact, bizarrely, I was now back to version 1!!! does this make ANY sense? does xt verion files? if so i couldnt find out how.

i spent a long time trying to find evidence of my file. used Undelete scanners. scanned whole harddrive by date and looked through every file that fit inside the window.

all the audio tracks are in the .xt_audio folder, just the most recent version of song.xt file that disappeared from existence.

so, i have been gradually getting over this loss and psyching myself up to go though the audio takes and import them into the older mix.

i have to tell myself that i must have done something stupid typing in the name when saving, otherwise how could i every justify using XT again!
even so, this should not happen.

Always, always have a back-up copy of your project on another hard drive to go back to.
Never, ever use ext for "professional" use.

Happened to me with ext - and corrupted project files were a regular occurrence to.

I've had XT2 delete a project once before, although not quite in the same situation as you.

If I remember though, a temp_file_name.xt file appeared that was the song just before I crashed.

I searched my whole hardrive and never found it. i can go under open projects and it will have the folder for the audio there but nothing is inside of the folder. me and my band spent a good 3 days perfecting the song, drums alone took a full day. the program just froze up on me and that was the last i saw of it. I have learned my lesson I will now save it then save a backup....loosing that song was just very depressing lol.

Yes this file still existed, it just somehow reverted to a much earlier version. earlier than the last saved version I was working on.

i know it makes no sense.

but basically,

i was working on version 2, trying to save version 3, and ended up with version 1 from a couple months before.

and version 2 was definitely saved correctly and had been opened multiple times after multiple computer shutdowns.

decided i'm going to rerecord the audio, because it is a pain in the ass trawling though the unlabled audio.

Ah ok I think I misread your post
I read: you have an audio folder called just ".xt_audio" or"_audio"

as if the project was saved without any characters as filename
I speculated xt uses this filename "*nothing*.xt" = ".xt" for saving when a project crashes or when you type in something invalid as the filename

because I once discovered a project file with no name in my projects folder
and was surprised to open a project I had previously saved with a filename.

After recording like crazy for two days the guitar parts for my song,AND saving every 5 minutes or so, right before finishing, just to make sure nothing bad happens, I save it, and then choose "save as", just to have a backup. It freezes, and I lose both the save as, AND the original. I still have the audio folder, but no xt file.

Is there any way I can recover the file?

Save it on another computer or a flash drive or something, and make sure it isnt connected when you save each time!!!
Burn backups to CD!

Update - after a few days of trying various recovery softwares, I managed to recover the saved files - but, although they are 135 mb in size, with the correct file termination (.xt), Energy XT doesn't see them. The recovery program said they are damaged, because the clusters were overwritten with audios belonging to that particular project (!?!?). Anywhow, I have them, but can't use them.
Is there a way to repair the intermediary saved .xt files?

This sounds very similar to what happened to me... :/


this weekend I decided to go back and redo my audio.
after about 3 hours of recording audio, all of a sudden XT would not let me record another track...
so i would reboot. then it would allow me one take, then not record anymore.

i guess is was a resource thing or something, too many tracks?

anyway, i made the decision there and then that i was not going to be using XT anymore, and that i'd finish this song off in Reaper.

final insult of XT, for whatever reason i was not able to export the song as individual tracks. don't know why, either a resource thing or my file was corrupt (checked, and was working fine for other projects). what it did do was export the topmost track.

so what i had to do was export project, delete the topmost track, then export again.

i'm definitley bitter.

i love the workflow of XT compared to most every DAW i've used,and i will definitly use it again for quick/rough composing.. but i don't plan to ever do anything serious in it again.

Yeah It's possible but I don't think so... is there a windows log that i can check... it was a few months ago now.

At the moment i've got 17Gigs free, but have let if drop as low as 5gigs.
and the virtual memory page file is on auto, so if XT was leaking memory then i could have ran out of space.

no, i haven't contacted the support team.
