Also, as an FYI (I didn't realize this at first), you can tell the Edens to switch the patch on a per clip basis. Definitely ups the versatility, imo, and if you treat them as a multiple oscillator synth you can resample some nice drum sounds over to TRG-16. I actually have a project called DrumSynth just for that purpose.

When they come out with a multi-track recorder with linear editing capabilities, I will be happy.
So far I have 4 track which is cool, but no cut and paste.
And I have Akai Synthstation which I feel is a total waste of money as there is no real-time recording and editing the piano roll is an extremely clunky experience.

Thanks for this! It looks pretty much like what I need! My goal is to record melodic and rhythmic ideas with my voice and piece them together into a song structure before I go into my pc daw to work on the actual production.

that will do fine in multitrack daw. cool idea to use voice as scratchpad.

Have to add: NanoStudio literally is the most amazing portable sequencer I have ever seen. Utterly staggering.

There is no comparison, and I've spent too much money on music making... this is literally pissing on *every* alternative from a huge height. So well featured and powerful, and the synth is a beaut.

Particularly nice running on iPad (the only niggle about the iphone version is that the screen is so small! but at least it's in my pocket at all times)

I agree with all. I've copied boats of samples, lightening fast. the synth is great, well featured. the drum machine is probably the most stacked of any iphone/ipad app.

I only used it on my ipad so far but it goes without a stutter. even with all six tracks and effects going, no slowing down.

iSquence is also a pretty good alternative and is updated frequently. I feel bad though, since it is such an amazing application itself but it is become the abandoned child after nanostudio.

I recently got an iPad but have yet to grab any payware apps. If you buy Nanostudio, do you get it for both iPad and iphone, or are there separate versions?

This might be my first foray into iPad music. I wish it had a simple melodic sampler though too (think Ableton's simpler).

Do loops beat sync on this thing? Do they have to be on one of the 16 pads?

yeah, also own iSequence here, and actually quite like it as well. it's sort of like the iPad version of arguru's old tracker in a very streamlined way. the main thing though it lacks i feel is the simple familiar workflow we're all used to on our DAWs with piano rolls, etc.

iSequence is a nice compliment to nanostudio esp. the sampler. it's more sophisticated by a lot than nanostudio with velocity and keyzones.

it's only an iphone app, we're running in our ipads in emulation mode (probably at 2x zoom but i cant speak for others this is how i do it).

aside from the pixelated text it's fine at 2x zoom IMO, though it would be nice to have a native ipad version to take advantage of some of the nice ipad features/controls.

so the answer is it is capable to run on both and buy only once

additionally abletons simpler is similar to what nanostudio trg-16 pad sampler provides in that it's a single sample with basic pitch and filtering with some simple loop modes and 3 possible busses.

pretty damned fine for a little in your hand studio IMO.

i'm keen to know if when the akai synth studio hardware controller akai is releasing soon (it has a slot that you plug your iphone/ipodtouch into right on the controller keyboard surface) would work with nanostudio, i think that would be about the coolest thing in the world, but i'm getting on just fine with the keys on the app in ipad 2x zoom mode - dont think i could do it on my iphone though, my fingers are too big and thick even with the wide keys setting in nanostudio.

This is such a fantastic app for the iPhone/iPod.

I'm hoping though that in future releases he might add a selectable effect on the main outs as I could do with it sounding a little more gritty than it currently does.

However seeing as how the effects are very hard wired (understandably to save processing power) this might be a long shot.

I'm keen to work solely with this to see how far it will go rather than feel the urge to re-process everything on a full sequencer.

Amazing though it really does make everything else look very basic suddenly!

can you record without it being quantized? That's my main issue with most of these iphone/ipad apps. I have iSequence, and felt I pretty much wasted my cash once I realized I couldn't record without things being snapped to the grid.

hehe, I had a QY10, and i bought it to make music on the train and stuff. I thought about it the other day - I barely used it, because it was utter shit; in my head (before i bought it) i'd imagined all the fun i'd have sequencing tracks on the train. f**king bollocks, it was terrible! NanoStudio is more powerful than my imagination was even capable of back then before i'd had my dreams shattered by that piece-of-crap-stuffed-in-a-video-case
