This is finished - just adding Kore versions then I'll upload it - thought I'd post a quick and dirty teaser in the meantime:

Would love to hear some proper Bass Presets. Some of the Factory Presets sound as if they are almost there. Haven't had much of a play with it yet but I'm very happy to have Sakura in my VST Folder.

Sounds really good

Went looking, but could not find the Sakura bank...

BTW - Can you offer any advice on using the 'Click - Noise' slider... I cannot work out if it even works.

I know the envelopes are a big part of the exciter stage, but moving the slider to both extremes does not appear to do anything.

If you are so close to releasing a sound bank, you must have figured it out... :?

It's not there yet - give me a few minutes.

The click and noise slider determines the form of excitation used. It's important to understand that in physical modelling sound production is not exactly the same as in a VA - nice simple tutorial here:

the exciter is a sort of noise oscillator but the form that noise takes can be "narrow and hard", like a click or pluck, or more "smeary" and drawn out, like a bow on a violin string. The click end makes the excitation more suitable for plucked or struck sounds, the noise end is more suitable for things like bowed instruments or sounds that have a scraped element (several of mine do this). The resonators are like the body of a violin or piano - they give it a space to vibrate in.

Read the help file - it's short but explains reasonably well how the various elements interact to shape the sound. I followed it carefully when creating my Kore template.

OK they are posted now on my site:

Since the name Sakura that ImageLine's physically modelled string instrument is given, refers to cherry blossom, Hanami seemed particularly apt for a preset bank aimed at showing off the beauty of the instrument. Hanami is the Japanese traditional custom of enjoying the beauty of flowers, particularly cherry blossom. This bank of 30 presets and 30 Kore Sounds includes asiatic and western tones, traditional instrument sounds, and new or hybrid sounds impossible to create using sampled instruments.
The bank includes a variety of sounds - yes there are a few basses (including a nice woody acoustic and a bass Koto as well as some harsh metallic bass sounds made with scraping textures that might work in heavy metal); there are also some keys including some clavinetish and harpschordish sounds (not I would stress precise emulations) and quite a nice Spinetish sound. I also olove how you can create really boingy loose stringed soundslike someone bouncing on a mattress so there are a few of those and some hybrid instruments too. Hope you like them.

Nice, been hoping for some good sakura patches as for me just going by the manual is sort of tough to figure some stuff out. Seems easier when theres some patches to go off of. Especially interested in seeing how this can do large drums as there was only one original percussion preset that I thought sounded pretty good and made me wonder what else it could do in that realm.

Post

Sorry I didn't do any drums - really as with all my presets I make them primarily for my own music and as a result of my process of getting to know an instrument and tbh I rarely use drums - but since it costs me nothing and benefits the community I'm happy to share them but they are as they come - not perfect and not made to everyone's taste.

Might see what I can do though - I like a challenge

Post

Oh I wasn't disappointed or anything, its good to have some good new presets of any kind as it helps to figure out how to use the program. Just meant I wish the original bank would have had at least more than one percussion to help with figuring out drum sounds.

Now to wait all day to get home from work and try out your new ones, thanks for posting them

Good way to think about physical modelling is to consider the human voice. The Exciter is the vocal cords - the sound they produce can be varied by adjusting the tightness of the cords (this is analogous to click vs noise) and of course the strength of breath passing through them. The resonator is the voice box itself - it provides a space for the sound to resonate and become richer with timbres, the final shaping of the sound is carried out in the mouth by the tongue and lips - these are like the filters in Sakura, they constrain and help to shape the sound, giving it articulation and determining its final character. Pretty much all real world instruments work in a similar way - exciters, resonators and shapers.

Bump before bedtime

Thanks much for the sounds.
I haven't tried them yet, but I really like Sakura with midi guitar. Since I finally got the response working well, there are a lot of vsts that really come to life with the ability for slides, bends, etc.
Going to go for Sakura and Maximus (I hope) before the yard sale ends.
