cantable 64 win7 and Kontakt

Just noticed that due to the way Cantable assigns Midi channels to racks only 16 midi channels (1 port) is available to kontakt (or any one rack for that matter). The others are "unavailable". To get more midi channels into Kontakt I must open multiple instances of Kontakt in multiple racks. This is messy. Multiple instances of Kontakt don't play nice IMO.

Anybody know a way around this?

Yes, you are right!

That's also not a particular issue with Cantabile x64, it's the same with x86 version too.

I've already found and criticized this a longer time ago. But as you know there was no feedback for 3 months... :?

hmm... still no word from Brad? eh. He was always around for awhile. Don't know if there is a workaround for this issue, its kind of a biggie for me. :(

Also, if I forget and start cantable without my profire lightbridge on it loses all the master bus assignments on ALL racks which is a real PITA since my system has 32 outs... ouch.

Just noted in the Kontakt 4 doc it states that as a plugin it is only capabale of 16 midi channels per instance anyway... so I guess it doesn't matter in any case :(

To get access to all midi ports at once from within a single instance the stand alone must be used. So I'm stuck using multiple instances of plugin from within Cantable each in its own rack.

I noticed that even tho I have Cant x64 pointed to the 64 bit vst directory where the 64 bit version of kontakt resides I am seeing the "*32" after the plugin name anyway. Whats up with that?

All I can say is that Brad knows about weaknesses in the master bus features and that he would like to change that. But that's old info and I am not sure about actual priorities...

The bus is very flexible tho even if somewhat clumsy to setup... often a trade-off between power and simplicity.

I didn't mean "weakness" in a technical sense but gui wise. One has to memorize too much from dialog to dialog to get all set up. I am a visual person and would prefer having more visual overview i.e. better routing setup dialogs.

Just one simple example to start with, the meters in a rack do not show if you have a mono rack, a stereo rack or a multi channel rack. It's the "tiny" things, not the concept per se.

ah, I would agree with u there. Still, all in all, for a one man product cantable is awesome. When I first signed up with C, Brad was a regular here. It was one of the primary reasons I took the leap. I sincerely hope Brad does not go the way of so many others especially when faced with the horrors of warez and freeloaders.

In any case, even with its 'weaknesses' C is still the best host on the market for what I do anyway.

Now, about the "*32" I am seeing after each instance of Kontakt. I'm running C64 on a Windows 7 64 bit machine with 16 gigs of ram. The vst directory is pointed to the 64 bit kontakt directory. Kontakt seems to be using all the memory as expected. I have C set to do 64 bit audio. What am I missing? Why does C act as tho Kontakt is 32 bit? Is this a Kontakt thing? I'm using ther latest version of K which installed both 32 and 64 bit versions.

I agree - it would be a pity not to see Brad coming back - because what is already done is really outstanding. If all that's hidden inside would be better accessible for users it would be an even more awesome product.
