the vst doesn't work in Cubase 5.5.1 on mac osx 10.5.8

Post

Isn't in Elek7ro envelopes are snappier than in Noismaker?

Post

Not wishing in anyway to make this a bash TAL post, but I'm just not feeling the love here. Certainly my ears may be getting a tad jaded as I age, but I'm never usually this far out on concensus.
I've just downloaded and demoed Elek7ro for the third time since release, and noisemaker twice (the new updated version).
What am I supposed to be hearing? Really, neither is screaming quality and/or class(ic).
Maybe it's the presets.
Perhaps someone can post up an fxb for elek7ro with sounds that sell it, before I delete it, again, and wonder just what an earth I should be smoking to join the love-in.

The quality of the basic audio engine - filter and oscillator - is, IMO, as good as it gets in VA freeware.

The architecture is kind of basic and consequently the potential for sound design is somewhat limited, which is then reflected in the presets (not to say that the presets are poor - xenox did a good job with the sound design, considering the limitations).

So, if you expect a wide variety of sounds, complex evolving patches, with aftertouch and modwheel assigned, and a load of effects added over the top, then you will probably be a little underwhelmed.

not even Kriminal or Bones (what happened to him?) could make a bad sound out of this synth...that's how good it is.

Just wanted to say thanks to the dev for a great little synth- working just fine here in N5 64 bit. Good job with the presets too.

Love the big GUI, perfect for my 27 inch. I like what Voxengo does on many of their plugs to give you a size option, that's very cool. I wish all plugs had these sizing options, but I digress.

Vast majority of patches run about 2% on my ASIO meter, but a few, like PD Bellomatism FN will run the meter to 10-12% if I hit and sustain a triad. This is with no other vsts running in N5, just the TAL. Not complaining, just sharing data.

I'm on a i7 980X.

I agree, this is a great little synth. Spent a lot of time last night and today tweaking and making my own leads and basses and funky keys and gatey pad things. It is definately limited architecturally, but there's still plenty of synth and mod routing opportunity here. I think the two chorus units sound great for spicing things up. Would like to see a nice stereo delay unit in place of the reverb, though... I think that would be much more useful, but here I go complaining about a great freebie!

I agree with you...but...aftertouch and modulation wheel assignment is part of the most basic, utilitarian control of the sound. It's unfair to mention it in the same paragraph as "complex evolving patches" which nobody is really expecting in a little (and very cool) synth like this. And this is made more confusing by the fact that a pitch wheel can control the filter but the mod wheel can't (not with a 'range' assigned to it).

In any case, I really like the sound of the osc and the filter. It has a 'vibe' and that's all that counts. :) The filter definitely sounds more alive than, say, Synth 1.

Are oscillator always free running or reset each time?

I hear what you're saying; I personally really liked the sound of the earlier Tal Bassline but never understood the fuss over Elek7ro. But now, I really like the sounds I'm getting from Noisemaker... Go figure as the kids say. :)

For me it's the filter, messing around with it just sounds good to my ears, turn down the cutoff, ramp up the res and get some truly unholy basses. :)

reset each time (elek7ro lets u choose...in noisemaker OSCs are always set to retrig)

How about making a list of requests and bug reports so the developer can have a clear idea of what can be improved?
I'll start:

1 - in cubase SX only the sound from the left channel can be heard

2 - for normal size monitors, the gui is way too big - a choice of size or a resizeable gui would be much appreciated

3 - the reverb doesn't seem to work

thanks!!!!!

(to anybody else: if you think this is a nice idea, please continue your report using the same method (numbered list in bold font), so it's easier for the developer to spot the items in the list)

Turn the "Wet" and "Size" knobs clockwise, the "LP" knob fully clockwise and the "HP" knob fully anticlockwise - then adjust to taste.

I hear you hearing me

Seriously, though, I'm just going to pass. There's nothing in either plug for me.
Bland and uninspiring are my final conclusions, but that doesn't hold anyone else back from enjoying it.
Full credit to the freeware dev (especially as he's garnered such a vocal support group), but as cups of tea go, these aren't nearly tasty enough for my palette.

I guess I need a share of the joint or a suck on that there hash pipe

I must have done just the opposite, thanks :) But until the one-channel-only problem isn't solved, there's very little I can do in terms of playing around... I'll keep that in mind, though, so thanks :)
