now THERE'S a theme for a kvr contest:

Failure

your mission is to write a piece that comes as close as possible to utter/total failure, on all levels, for all listeners. that's a really difficult task, because there are lots of listeners who enjoy "bad" music (like me!) like they might enjoy "bad" films. so you'd have to come up with something that was bad enough to disappoint the good-music lovers but not bad enough to excite the bad-music lovers. i think boring would be the way to go. though perhaps there are people who like boring music? i used to listen to muzak a lot, but that's because it was so boring it was bad (= good for me).

Working on something ambitious for this. It's either going to be an epic or an epic fail.

I'm mading an orchestral track but at this time I just studied how to orchestrate Strings and I know a bit of Brass arrangment(school band times...) so you might wait something realy inusitate. See you!

I've always wanted to do one contest like this.
To compose something to be as repellant as possible with no merit at all would be quite challenging.

Would it be most or least votes who wins though? :?

really good question. howzabout this for a variant of the Failure theme:

your mission is to get the fewest votes.

:-o
your mission is to get the fewest votes
 Not really much of a challenge, in my experience. :P

if we are doing a fail theme I think we all have a good laughter, it will be hard to make something bad without sounding silly

Any volunteers for hosting my entry?

I rendered to mp3 at 192 yesterday and there are a few noticeable artifacts... Grrrrrrr

I am thinking of trying ogg but do most media players play ogg? I'd rather you hear the mp3 than nothing at all due to a missing codec or something. And I don't think anyone would install a codec just to listen to my entry..
What do you guys think?
Play it by ear

no one's going to vote you down on account of artifacts

Ensemble arrangement is where I am completely out of my league. I always want to give every part their own legato melodic line all of the time! For 2 or 3 parts it is beautiful. By the time I get to the fourth part, it's tangled spaghetti! But you can't learn to swim without jumping in the water, right?

Nystul
My uncle, Rimsky Korsakov :hihi: , always said: A good orchestration is a balanced score, not to much color, not to much monotone, just balanced. If your problem is that on strings, I just think you should Do like my another uncle, Villa - Lobos  ,you have to COMPOSE THE MUSIC the INSTRUMENTS ARE JUST A CONSEQUENCE. So you have to write the music at first time, after that you give a part to each instrument, well, this is the way I do. See you!

ooooh, can i join? i can put together a very convincing resume of heinous failures.
I already know that any piece that I'll put out now will be a fail. Mind if I join? :hihi: :hihi:
Hrm.

This is getting too large for a club...we may need to make it a league or something...

The League of Extraordinary Fail? The Army Fail Corps? The Fail Foreign Legion?

...not quite right yet... :?

Btw, just discovered that one can directly link to files at SoundCloud now, so that should help for this comp.
