Is there any way to "overwrite" a portion of the loop on the fly, like to replace a mistake or insert a gap of silence a la Frippertronics?

I don't think so. I use Mobius for such things. Great complement to Augustus Loop.

Yeah, maybe I'll go that route. Can't stand the GUI on Mobius, though, especially on my little netbook screen. Any other loopers that have a replace feature? Sooperlooper is cool and all, but I'll have to use Jack, which adds another layer of configuration.

It is possible, but you need to get into the right mindset. Remember, Augustus is basically a tape delay. So to replace part of the loop, think what you'd need to do to replace part of the loop on a tape delay.

E.g. to insert silence, just put the feedback to zero for a short time.

I was thinking the same thing. I will experiment with a footswitch command from the FCB1010 that will toggle between 0% and 90% feedback for this purpose.
