Extending a track by 2 bars. How to do this gracefully?

Chords, scales, harmony, melody, etc.

I'm currently doing a track for the title credits of a TV show. Everything was pretty much done until last night the producer asked me to add 4 seconds (approximately 2 bars) to the length of the song (but not to the ending as the music had to keep 'pumping' for an extra 4 seconds and push the ending bar out by 2bars. The music follows a CCFFCCFF pattern and then the end bar is a C. I've tried a few things for the extra 2 bars but can't quite get it to work.Tried CCFFCCFFFF and then C but it sounds off. I will try a 3 bar fill starting at bar 8 (as opposed to a 1 bar one) to see if this helps.

The music is only 20 seconds long so slowing the tempo won't work.

Has anybody else encountered this problem? If so how did they get around it?

Many thanks,
Hugh

I'd find a section that loops and loop it to fill out the extra 4 seconds. It's an unusual length for an ad ... they're usually 30 secs aren't they?

It's no ad, ControlCentre, but ending credits.

Some ideas:
* Add an extra intro of 2 bars.
* Can't they just run the credits a bit faster?

not that I've ever had this problem or expect to have this problem, but I'd add something similar, but different -- and somewhat deceptive in key or melody and/or rhythm at the start and then drop into your existing 20 seconds

Thanks, some good tips there. Will try some of those tonight.

 I was just out of bed when I replied, must have dreamed the advert bit. :hihi:

add an intro with just the drums playing, or the bass or something

+1 to the extended intro idea.

It's difficult to say without listening to the track, but a short break between the intro and the main theme sometimes adds tension. No good for simpler intros, obviously.

How about a crescendo at the beginning prior to the intro? Stretch the intro another two bars and raise volume of the sound to give it a bang at the start.

Can you delay the start of the cue? Tweak tempo? Edit: Tempo mod is no-go...missed that part...

I have a question: how is it that you have a composing gig with so little experience with a simple compositional task that you have to come here to get sorted out?

This is OT, of course, but i'm curious too.

Some people aren't afraid of learning through real life challenges.
This is understandable knowing that there are lots of kind people on the kvr forum ready to submit helpful and relevant replies to their questions.
