Okay I write a lot of Trance like literally tons its just about all I know. Usually I experiment with new methods every single time I write. Combining keys, chord progressions, implicating tons of music theory, and a lot of other music theories.
Usually I will start off writing in a Minor cause I make Progressive Trance and start off with Chord Progressions. I was taught by a friend of mine to write in Minor but I have caught myself writing in Major before.
I love to talk Trance and really want to expand my knowledge of making really great music. So lets talk music and share our ideas and techniques with everyone.
Also if you have any Trance related or House related tracks I'd love to hear them!

I put a few on soundcloud a while ago.

They have all been released, I have more as well, I just don't have a paid soundcloud membership to post more than that, maybe it changed since then though?

I listened to the first one, I haven't gotten time to listen to all at the moment, currently cleaning. But the Organic Environment sounds pretty good. What do you use as your DAW? Just curious I'm a FL and Ableton user myself.

I don't quite understand... "Taught to write in minor?" I am not very much into trance, so I may say something funny, but why only minor? I've heard progressive trance tracks in major.

Most of these are Works in Progress and some of them are clearly not Trance, but here it is!

I love listening to non-vocal trance, but its not something I can write very easily; most of my stuff ends up as tech-house or techno. That said, I always seem to write in minor keys as well. Mostly I just bang around on the keyboard while a neat synth patch is playing until I find something nice, record the MIDI and start copy/pasting it around the piano roll to create a progression. Knock up a nice drumline, throw on a few melodic elements, create a basic arrangement then tweak, automate and abuse until it sounds good.
I was NapalmBob once ...

Well to be honest I was told to write in major so I've only honestly never tried writing in Major for next my project I might actually do that then. What do you write?Km7 wrote:I don't quite understand... "Taught to write in minor?" I am not very much into trance, so I may say something funny, but why only minor? Find myself producing/trying to produce progressive trance or house. do you guys have any tips on creating interesting chord progressions/melodies and basslines? I find myself stuck, kinda like writers block lol. Add me on msn if you like, would like to chat to you guys! zypher@hotmail.com

http://soundcloud.com/mystran has some trancy stuff too (well most of it I suppose), though my music tends to gravitate towards some sort of half-psychedelic synth orchestrations with the obligatory acid line or two. You have been warned.
It's not that I ever TRIED to make normal trance... I just usually fail miserably.

I've been reading up on some music theory and came to the conclusion that I subconsciously apply most of it automatically.
@Zypher: If you're stuck, try to look on the net for some cool scales, I recently discovered the Harmonic Minor scale, sounds pretty cool. Also try to look up famous chord progressions and start modifying them (invert chords, add new chords etc.)
