If you're still at it, you can use my 10% discount code:

Copy/paste, save, bookmark ...

Code: Select all

That's how the discount works:
(I'm getting next to nothing out of already heavy discounted stuff, but hey)...

Thanks for the idea. I've just checkd that but a message says:
"Please note that only purchase of $89 and above will apply affiliate discount at checkout!"

So I am afraid I guess it will not work for just getting Vocodex for $44.10 instead of $49... :(

Clever set limit - so even two $49 items will not do - $88.20 is still to few for the $89 limit to get the discount... so what? buying 3 items???... no chance... LOL :hihi:

I don't think that the "44.10" is right, I'm sure it's a mistake - I bought maximus and was billed with "true" 49$.
But in the shop, I also saw the "44.10" figure. Well, mistakes happen - or is NOT a "mistake" and is there to lure the unsuspecting masses into "gimme, gimme" mood. Tsk-tsk, IL!!! Cheeky.

I think that with 2 purchases you qualify, but hey, I don't work for them.
(Imo, out of effects the vocodex and maximus are "real steals", but other are ... so-so)
... although I'm thinking of either Sawer or Poizone.

Whichever - not much time left.

$44.10 is the price displayed when using the affiliate link. It's 10% off affiliate rebate, $49 - $4.90 = $44.10... :hihi:
But when using this link you also get the warning about the minimum amount you have to shop for.

Anyway, I will have a look inside the manual now before doing a final decision.

OOps - didn't know that, that's funny. But of course, I couldn't use the "affiliate" link for myself.

BUT I DID see the "44.10" in the shop when I was buying maximus..

O.k. well ...

Maybe you missed this warning?

Posting your affiliate link like this, in a thread about IL plug-ins, is perfectly okay. It's just in the sig that it's not allowed. Don't post it so much it gets spammy (you aren't doing that now, no worries) and you'll be fine.

I don't know, TBH. I just went thru the process as fast as I could. BTW. I was logged in and all. In all honesty, I don't remember the details, but it was the number "44" that I remember. It was afaik on all "yard sale" items. But I didn't investigate further, because, at the time I just wanted the maximus and for me that was enough at the time.

... I know, sloppy, but hey..

You also have to be a completely new customer to Image Line to be able to use the discount code. IIRC.

Back from first tests of vocodex.

TAL vocoder is better? I don't think so, it's different, probably more vintage sounding. It's less cpu demanding and it's cheaper  - it's just a basic 11 band vocoder with limited variety - but it's true that it provides usable sounds too. As usual it's useless to discuss sound itself which is a matter of taste.

Don't know about ELS vocoder mentioned here but I guess this is purely a matter of taste and simply a different goal too - emulating original vintage gear. And as said, it's much more expensive than $49... ;)

I like IL Vocodex. It's fun to use and offers a broad variety of effects in one plugin. There are deeper things like the various curves that have to be explored.

The vocodex manual isn't really a joy to read and more a listing of parameters but it gives most information needed to operate it.

One thing I missed with vocodex is a gate that closes the output when no carrier signal or no midi notes are present. Some aspects of the modulator can be mixed in/synthesized and still appear on the output even without a carrier. Maybe technically consequent but practically a bit silly. So my wish to IL: add a gate option.

In the meanwhile I have to seek for a freebie midi based audio gate... any hints or recommendations?

Another point is I still think vocodex is cpu hungry. Just using SSL1 seems to be a bit dated in terms of cpu optimization, doesn't it? Especially if you use the built in carrier synth cpu load up another lot. But the carrier choice is broad and spot on to instantly get usable effects. I tried superwave P8 as external carrier synth too and got quite different results - with sounds not necessarily optimized to be a vocoder carrier... Maybe that's one reason why vocoders with simple built in carrier synths do not convince me.

Just had a look on the IL authorization process in their knowledge base:
http://support.image-line.com/knowledge ... =35&ans=30
http://support.image-line.com/knowledge ... 35&ans=119
A registry installer FLregkey.REG? Again a new procedure I haven't seen before.
Is this machine dependent and how do I transfer to a new machine? Simply reinstall with the stuff I've already downloaded?

How about upgrade policy? I know about IL's lifetime free service on Fruity Loops but what about other products? I would like to see a 64bit version of vocodex some time too - however that's not a point influencing my purchase decision process.

Sorry about pointing to authorization and upgrade but I prefer to know before a purchase...
[Edit] This seems to explain offline installation and authorization:
http://support.image-line.com/knowledge ... =35&ans=77
looks acceptable, no challenge response, thumbs up.

I will use the time left before the special deal ends to check out some more - but I am really tempted to get it, even that was not on my current list of things to go for quickly...

kbaccki wrote:I was fiddling with vocodex this morning... definately been on my wish list for a bit. I noticed that you can load Sytrus presets right into the Vocodex inline carrier synth just by dropping the FST file into the synth => preset folder wherever you installed vocodex. Cool!
I tried this with the Vocodex/Sytrus demos but it didn't work. I just got a gray entry for the added patch in Vocodexs' carrier synth patch selection.

What did you exactly do?
[Edit] My fault: I renamed the patchname which does not work. Just using the original name and copying works fine.

As I always wanted an FM synth sytrus is now tempting me too... :-o
[Edit] Less tempting now as Sytrus VST seems to be unable to write FST file format which is needed as patch file for Vocodex carrier...

While I was about to place an order for Voxodex with IL I noticed an add of 21% VAT - that is crazy. I am no Belgium customer (IL is located in Belgium). German VAT is 19%.

In Germany it's not allowed advertising VAT exclusive prices to private customers. It's just allowed for commercial offers when clearly targeting this or restricting access.

I am confused - I am not pleased to pay additional VAT, especially not higher Belgium VAT of 21%. Am I doing something wrong in the ordering process? Or are things meant that way?

That's what I expected, but the order information lists:

Vocodex (VST) $49.00
Total products: $49.00
VAT (21%): $10.29
Final price to pay: $59.29

No clue what's that about... haven't payed this and sent a support ticket... nothing but trouble... :nutter:
