I have the same opinion as Soul_Junkie, Angello is not a very technical producer ( this does not mean he is a bad producer ).
Solo productions of Angello allways seam to lack some sort of quality compared to his productions with his fellows.
His Future Music In the Studio is a proof of that.

Dance music nowadays is all about combining ideas of other with your own, every track gets remixed, almost all producer use sample cd's and sample stuff from old records. You can try to do it all by yourself but why would you? If a loop from someone else get's you going, just make a record from it. Fatboy Slim did that all the time and he's considered genius (which is true).

And therein lies the heart of the discussion. As always, music serves up subjective opinions like nothing else, so I'm not sure if it's a matter of taste, or how we 'define' creativity/skill whatever.ThomasKoot wrote:Fatboy Slim did that all the time and he's considered genius (which is true).
Is Norman Cook taking and turning it into
or even Daft Punk taking and turning it into
any more or less talented/skilful or creative than Steve Angello taking THIS and turning it into ?
I guess it's a matter for taste or how an individual defines creativity. But I do think that the 'everybody uses sample CD's' argument is a little generic. It's like saying all guitar players in bands use amps or pedals. Kicks and snares are ubiquitous just like distortion on a guitar is, so maybe the surprise is more WHERE the sample came from (a Vengeance CD and not a flea market) that is more surprising.
Sound Engineer / Musician / Producer......but I'm always learning.

Wasnt there something in the fine print of those Future House sample cds that they are royalty free to use but in non commercial productions .. Or do I remember wrong, I think there was even a thread in KVR about this ..djanthonyw wrote:They're samples that are supposed to be royalty free.
