hi im using cubase 5.5 with rmv.Im new to rmv and have enabled all outputs. So i have a hat on output 1,i created a new midi track and set it to midi channel 2,select a drum sound on rmv and set it to out 2.But when i play on the midi keyboard i cant hear the sound unless i put it on midi channel 1 in cubase.
Im sure someone can advise
basically need help setting up diff drum sounds on separate outputs.

Bit difficult to tell from your description but if you are using a kit rather than loops then you click on 'setup' tab, then choose a number in the 'MIDI CH pads' box, and that will be the midi channel that the pads will receive midi from cubase from. So it sounds like in your case it may be set to 1.

If you are talking about bringing individual drum sounds back into Cubase on their own aux track I would suggest looking at the RMV videos on youtube specifically the mapping drum kits one and the edit multiple slices at once which while not specifically answering your question should help you understand how to do what you want.

Post

hi, i want to assign each drum sound to a different midi channel.i.e snare on 1 kick on 2 etc.
can i do this?

Post

don't think so, why would you want to anyhow?. Only way I think would be to open a new instance of RMV for each sound and assign the midi channel for each instance to what you want.

Post

i want to be able to apply separate effects to each sound.
Bound to be a way to do this, not jus for effects but,to save cpu.

It seems to me that you are confusing midi with audio channels.
You don't need to use different midi channels, but to set pads to individual outputs.

Just click the outlined symbol (S01) and drag to set the output.

That way you'll hear all sounds when you play via your midi keyboard and you'll have different pads set to separate mixer channels.

thanks.

no,hold on,thats not helping,i need the separate drum sounds on sep midi tracks, otherwise all sounds playin at same time.

Post

I don't understand what you mean by "all sounds playin at same time".

Post

ok,i dont want all percussion on one midi track.
I want kick only on a track, snare on another track etc.
without having to open an instance of rmv each time.

Post

You can have separate midi tracks for each drum sound, just set them to the same midi channel (midi tracks and midi channels are not the same thing).
Still, this has nothing to do with having each sound on a separate mixer channel.

Post

but then if i play a hat for instance on midi 1,the kick will also play as well as it is on midi 1

Post

no it won't they are on different notes, ie you hit (for example) F#3 on you keyboard you hear a hihat, you hit C3 you hear a bass drum.
seems like you don't have a grip on the basics of midi

No problem Peter but I have a question regarding assigning outs in RMV. I will start a new thread so as not to hijack.
