Hope IL will comment on the VAT issue during billing today. Otherwise I strongly consider to drop the yard sale and IL in general for further shopping.

I really hate such surprises during online shopping. I quickly feel cheated with such stuff. It's not really about a couple of bucks but in general about honest business.

IL should clearly list "$49 excl. VAT" in the shop then it would be fine to me. But just "$49" means that billing has to split VAT (if any) from this final price.

IL can you hear me?...

I just played around with the country settings... if I set netherlands the bill shows also 21% VAT... but if you choose a country outside EU the VAT vanishes...

I think the shop works not proper for EU customers!

I think it does; In the EU you pay based on the VAT rate of country of the seller. Outside the EU, you dont pay VAT.

I remember having a similar issue with another vendor when I lived in the UK. It would certainly be helpful if it was clearly stated but then the price doesn't look as attractive.

I got the same answer from IL this minute.

What I find annoying and not ok here is that there is nowhere any hint with the price being VAT exclusive.

To be honest I find this not a very clean business behavior.

As far as I know this is the reason why offers to private consumers have to include VAT in displayed prices. VAT exclusive prices are just allowed for commercial customers and even then it always needs a hint that the price is VAT exclusive!

I am really unsure if I want to deal with a company with such habits and behavior... even worse when I consider the yard sale ends in about 12 hours...

IL was responsive and cleared the issue.

I checked that IL arguments were ok. See:

Unfortunately it's right that Belgium 21% VAT applies for EU customers.

IL will add a hint to make this clearer in future before one has reached the final billing page...

Under your account, change the country in address to United States.
I just bought Vocodex via Paypal this way successfully

I've checked that out and knew about - I also reported this somewhere - but that's somewhat "gray" - if you are a EU resident.

You must know that your IP address is stored with your order and it is possible to find out the country from where you ordered this way. As the internet never forgets what you ever did...

BTW: The yard sale continues for another week 'til 7th of september...

Vari, I'm just curious...could you please check your PayPal page in the next day or so to see if PayPal or IL caught this and charged you the VAT?

The reason I ask is that I bought the Camel Audio "Planet Earth" sound set, and the transaction was processed as $59. But on my PayPal page the withdrawal was about a dollar more, due to the current exchange rate.

I think paypal doesn't care - they just transfer the money.

If IL find's out the address manipulation they will probably try to get the VAT from you. Maybe IL close your account - the only "punishment" they can do instantly. Probably IL does not care too - no clue.

Anyway, address manipulation isn't ok imho to "save" VAT.

Can we discuss Image-Line Vocodex as it on sale for $49 for a while!
