That's great news about the bug fix and an improved version 1.1. I'll keep watching this thread and will probably pick up the new version when it's ready.

Hi!

Just want to mention that I had tons of fun messing with the demo but I think your app have a problem when there's another plugin with HW acceleration on the screen at the same time. If I open the GUI of AriesVerb (another plugin with HW acceleration) then the GUI of Granite freeze. The plugin is still processing audio, it's just the GUI that freeze. If I close both plugins GUI then re-open the Granite GUI everything is fine.

Maybe the problem is with AriesVerb and not Granite though.

Anyway, great plugin, hope the GB will be soon so I can get it.

a re-work of the graphics engine is in progress ...

Developer had to know that the Reaktor Grainstates ensemble would be the yardstick by which this sort of tool would be measured, so it's hard to figure why it wouldn't include that feature right out of the gate. Particularly when it seems like all the pieces are there (setting the start and end points for internal loops; advanced automation recording).
Was this ever added? I'm having a little granular synthesis jag and I like Grainstates but I'm wondering if a specialize tool is worth it...

It's pretty nice. And what a good clean design for the VSTi and the site! When a GB appears, so will my credit card...

For what... is a group buy in the making? Coupon code? I see it listed on news sites for $60 yet when I try to buy it it comes out to $76 USD... is that right?

Maybe $60 was the original pre-release price or something... or maybe the two sites I saw confused Euro with USD.

Hi

It was always 60 euros, I recall a few websites misquoted it as $60. Probably thats where the mixup came from.

cheers

Sounds nice and appropriate for newagey IDM noodling (with that huge reverb added to most presets), but testing the demo I'm struck by how limited this is feature-wise. The ability to record modulation is the only feature which is not entirely standard bread and butter granular ABC (it is a cool feature, though). It's also lacking a couple of basic and really central features, like pitch glissando and most importantly jitter control for each individual parameter.

A big limitation with the engine is that it features only 16 individual grains, which is a ridiculously low number in this day and age. Why? When I start building a granular synthesizer in Max/MSP, I start from 64 and go up from there.

For me, a deal breaker is also that extreme parameter ranges are, in general, not possible. The smallest grain length is really still quite long and the fastest grain speed is still very slow. It's also not possible to get a really fast, punchy attack for the grain. Also, why does "space" affect the grain length? It's not at all possible to get a texture with a lot of silence now.

The UI is great, though.

Hi

Indeed Granite is carefully scaled, and believe me it took a lot of time and thought to reduce the parameter set to what you see there now. This was done intentionally, and a lot of tough decisions were made for sure.

Granite is designed to be intuitive, musical, productive, and as much as possible, sound good at any parameter combination (and that is key for the internal modulation concept to work musically). Sure, there are additional sonic possibilities to be had with very extreme ranges, but Granite is essentially about the parameter movement, the evolving nature of the sounds, and other possibilities (including more extreme ranges) were cut to optimally serve that purpose.

I agree though that glissando makes sense and will probably be added at some point. Regarding jitter, I think that is covered by the Cycle modulators, although there is no true random mode (but again, thats a design choice).

Overall, I'm not trying to say Granite is the "right" way or something, I just feel that you might be comparing it to something it doesn't claim to be. It's definitely not intended to be the complete granular workstation, but on the other hand I think it offers things which other approaches don't.
