I did the beginning of this song using a golf ball bouncing on a desk and applying some pitch shifting plus filters.

My suggestion, and it's a simple one; render your track to audio, then copy the render to 10 different tracks. Wind down the volume on 9 of them, then apply choice FX to the back 9. Then, using crossfades, bring the back 9 in and out under your main audio track.

Do that a lot, works a treat for cinematic, soundscape, and ambient music!
