Here is a novel thought. You could get a master copy with an unchangable datestamp like I give all My clients that pay in full. Cost = a blank DVD or CD, Legal stuff = it will hold water. They themselves may or may not be able to use it but who would be putting thier masters in to listen to?

Not likely to hold water at all, actually. No legal precedent. Likely precedent will be "laughed out of court". See the well-done post by thenumber23 directly above yours for a more likely scenario. Again, saving $35 is probably not worth it if you want to actually protect your work.
