Okay, now that I have my own track in there I can listen to the first few offerings and shed my ear on...

TristezaOrange - Heavily modulated sounds that play Caribean like moods. It works in a way on this one.... Cool that ghostly intro... Some love it was then :D when its supposed to be an elegy .... Yup, I enjoyed it :)

You TM - Okay call me weird on this one, but did you get an inspiration from Kylie's 'Slow'? I loved that acidy sequence running through this track. This is one heck of a track. Cool lyrics. How you changed the volume of the vocals to bring it quite close in the middle was interesting... Hail Mary indeed

Donkey Tugger - What is that with your tracks, every new one draws me closer into fanhood of the Donks. Must be Reverbs.... One thing I'd suggest here to shorten the intro and bring a bridge at 1.19... You may not have been first this month but you brought quite a 'song' this time... tops

Oops12 - been said before... check the rules, as this will be disqualified. That don't mean I didn't listen to it.... Freaky Jazz man... I thought the guitar and piano were more struggling then working together in this tune.... Read the submission rules and create something for this contest especially.... I like what I am hearing here now....

Normal - Oh wow, that atmosphere kicks right in... Very cool production. As always your placement of instruments in the mix is really swell... Rich and subtle bass that sounded beautifully round....What kind of organ did you use on this one, sounded pretty good...

KrOkz - okay now I understand all the rule talk in this thread.... If you want your tracks heard you can post them in the cafe themselves. Check out the rules and try again.... Listening to it anyhow :) Pretty trippy electronica  Welcome aboard...

smart - I picked up somewhere along the threads today you were hot for the monomate :) Yup, and you know how to tease the sounds too... Are you trying to influence the judges holding us some tasty peaches? Well its working :D This is a fun tune

duncanparsons - Ohhh definately there is Funk going on here, but what I am so terribly missing is that punch in the percussion. and the Brass felt too thin too... the melodie'd organs sound pretty convincing though.... I love the way you used your voice as an instrument here, a bit Al Jarreau-feel was brought with that... Cool title too: Tsarchasm :)

VitaminD - Volume went waaaaayyyyy up.... Very cool production here, trance as trance should be. My only nit was that most of the sounds seem to stay in their place a bit too much, some wider modulation and lfo'ing would have benefitted especially the pads... That part after the break is pretty driving.... Cool track. Great diversity this month allready :)

Digital Stasis - Cool experimental track. Quite the inroduction to KvR. The voices become instruments here.... cool how you cut those throughout the track. At some points the track cuts a bit too deep into the low end of that deep sound. Other then that I realize hearing it now a couple of times in a row that there is something new to hear on each passing... Yup, you left an impression here. Some pretty good sample-mangling going on... Hope you'll share some stuff in the Cafe too..

Wopelka - You and your magic hat! Every month you surprise me with something so cool.... The music sounds pretty good here man, that bass is pushing this rhythm quite well.... Okay I have to ask is that backing vocal you? Tops man! Talking of vocals I must say they are quite well mixed into the song!

lsd - Ehhhhhh... I thought we maxed at 128 kbs. Yup it will probably loose a lot of expression in the conversion. But the rules are for all to get our creative ashes going to get the best sound out of the limitations.... Great pads though and superb building here... Sparkle and depth! Hope it will stay as powerful...

Sepheritoh - For some reason blues never appealed to me, but you just convinced me big time with this well outspun melodic piece, where I felt the hats and rides could have been a tad softer. Thanks for sharing a view over Johannesburg by night...

Garret - And immediately I am reminded of submissions of the past from you. This makes me feel so at home and so comfy. I have absolutely nothing to add to this then: My favorite sofar, I could listen to this anytime of day and sit back and relax.

Ixox - A shame the link don't work at the moment, and its not yet uploaded to your site. I'll get back to this one later...

Great variety allready....

Going to be another tough voting month, but one filled with enjoyment listening to these all... :D

Mystahr, thanks for the comment and nice words! :)

well, so many here have their sound: beardedone, vurt, ixox, donkey, garret to name some of the most obvious... i'm probably one of the less typed around... i fear that this is just due to an awful lack of style... :-o
Mystahr wrote:Okay I have to ask is that backing vocal you?
Nope, all vocals are performed by Aladin himself. Music and production are mine and that's all.

Glad you like it! Cheers.

I can play the some of the Oggs OK. Duncan Parson's "TsarChasm" and Vitamin D's "blank" take a few seconds to load at first then halt after a few seconds during playback - the sound and progress bar stop then then resume after a few more seconds. Then it drops out again (and again). Godfather's "Drill Instructor" played all the way through once, but now it suffers the same interrupted playback. I surely don't hold these problems against the artists - so don't fear that it would count against you in my vote. I know it my software that's the problem. But this does remind me of the VHS vs. Beta issue...

Speaking of superior technology that languishes in the shadow of philistine contrivances, I've got a couple DAT machines around (a nice but broken Sony portable) and a Tascam that I'm afraid to use because it tends to eat cassettes. Now everything is direct-to-disk (or is it "disc?") My friend still has a 4-track cassette... Ah, those were the good old days... Trying to make songs without sequencers or plug-ins...

Mystahr, thanks for the thoughtful review. I am checking out "Slow" just this second... OK, I hear what you mean. I call those sequencer tracks "plinkies," I probably overuse plinkies - they show up in a lot of my songs... It's definitely inspired by Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream rather than acid techno or Kylie. (but shucks, she sure is cute!) I listened to too much "Europe Endless" and "Rubycon" as a kid. God, I loved them. So I have many patches of plinky sounds that I use when I sketch out songs to kinda add some sparkle because I tend to get carried away with the percussion. The volume trick on the vocals in the middle is just an artifact of too much compression/limiting - it's because at that time most of the other sound drops out so the effect raises the apparent volume to match the power of the fully loaded signal. It's definitely not transparent like it's usually supposed to be. It seemed OK when I finished the song but I think it's a little too heavy now...

Youtm..
Try the real player alternative (look for it here. [NB: Windows only..]

It plays oggs really well.

(However, look out for popups at the download site.. just looked, I'm sure they weren't there b4, but it might use an ad server, so it may be random - make sure your firewall is turned on!) It's a sourceforge project, but this page is quite convenient for a number of alternative players, etc...

Mystar - thx for the review. I confess, I had to do the mix on headphones, so it may well loose something being played through air. Chances are I won't have chance to fix it (Not sure if the rules would allow anyway!!).
..and ..err.. there aren't any organs on this (a rare occurrance for me!), just a bit of EVM strings in the 'verb buss, but little if any dry, and some EVM Steel String run thru' Classic Chorus to make the guitar.
The Voice as instrument came from using a vocal take alongside the final take with a little flange to fatten it, then I played with CowDelay, and brought it in sparingly to add interest rather than swamp it - I was rather pleased with the effect!
For the brass I was tempted to write a proper 5 voice part, and assign trumpet, trombone..euphonium, fronch horn.. {but not sax, being woodwind ofcourse!} - I sometimes you can just try too hard, so I didn't! Since I have been championing the EVM Little Fella series in this piece, I went with the EVM Brass, and a fair bit of compression... but hey most funk is compressed to astonishing degrees!

Thanks Mystahr. Glad you enjoyed this. I will keep your advice in mind and remix it better when the contest is over. :)

So, my entry is up

and here
is the ogg version for the ones who like to try and compare it.

I used REASON,
only one subtractor and two malströms
and one reddrum
and a lot of FX
In CUBASE 5.1 I recorded my voice
and mastered with some plugs.
sound is vibration, vibration is life
