i still ask myself :).

Another plugin standard equivalent to the VST one using mainly Ms DirectX routines. Some daws or audio editors like Soundforge can still host Dxi plugs, while Cubase for example dropped the Dxi support from version 4 ( Wich I thought was a real pita but well . )

well, we tried all the rituals, but we just cant seem to retroactively make it disappear from history. strange isnt it.

I think any pluginmakers with a survival instinct provide VST and VSTi. If they have DX and DXi versions is hardly important anymore.

But the Izotope products like Ozone and Trash came as DX only in the beginning.

Cakewalk products like Sonar have always been DX in the inner core and wrapping VST's through an adapter. But I don't know how it is now since x64 versions of Dimension Pro exist as VSTi, but not DXi as I understand it.

No, they stopped doing that a long time ago.

I cant recall a new plugin being released as a DXi for a very long time; at least 3 or 4 years. Most new versions of plugins that did support it no longer do; Kontakt-based instruments make up thye bulk of the DXi plugins in the KIVR database, but NI no longer make a DXi version of any of their plugins.

Current DXi plugins dont exist, just legacy ones.

Thanks for update, good to know they finally did that. It really was an obstacle for selecting Cake stuff.

Not long ago I upgraded from Sonar 4 to 8.5 so I guess I missed that. But the dialog in pluginsmanager properties for each plugin kind of had the same checkboxes as when adapter was there, as far as I remember.

Yeah, they still give you the same options and handling for plugins (which is handy, tbh), but its no longer DXi at the audio engine layer.

There are still some DirectX plugins floating around out there from the good ol' days.

Samplitude still handles DX.

Then I'm a bit puzzled still.

I used have VSampler both as DXi and VSTi installed.

And I had what I consider a bug in VST handling in that they do not list the presently loaded instrument names, but only Mutli 1, Multi 2, Multi 3 as names.

It worked nicely with DXi.

And VSampler VST still lists proper names in other hosts but not in Sonar. I reported this in the Old S4 days, but it's not fixed still in 8.5.

It's very handy to just select a name from a list what instrument you want to run on a track.

That gave me impression they still have not a proper VST handling at root.

DXI refers to Direct X instrument. it is the way the signal goes out.
Some daw's and standalones allow you to choose between DXI or ASIO
Having dxi virtual instruments are handy when you want to run the standalone separate then the daw.
Example you have guitar pro and are trying to cop some licks from a song.
Guitar Pro sends asio as Windows7 machines only allow for one asio to run at a time if you wanted to play along with a standalone you'd need a dxi

A really nice free standalone that uses DXI is Proteus VX

The thing that has killed me on lesser computers thru the years with crappy sound cards is that dxi always shines with no latency and moderate to high sample rates where as asio almost always drags.

thats complete nonsense. DXi (DirectX Instrument) is a plugin format, ASIO is a soundcard driver protocol, they have nothing in common.

DXi is a 'competitor' to RTAS, VSTi or AudioUnits.

ASIO is a 'competitor' to WDM, MME, DirectSound, CoreSound and WaveRT.
