Allready mentioned and stratsound isn't exactly a metalsound is it? How often do you see metalguys using strats with singlecoils? Well if you are after the Iron Maiden 80's sound. Or using a Seymour Duncan hotrail in your own strat to get a humbucker sound. But that's another thing.muLperi wrote:RealStrat

This sound is pretty much dead on to what my old guitarist's setup use to sound like. It's what I "grew up" on.EvilDragon wrote:Chani wrote:Yes, a little. From simple Heavy Metal to Death Metal.
DeathTest.mp3
I'm working on making the super fast picking sound better.
Damn, Shred can sound so much better than thisI don't particularly like the distortion here...
Car to share your settings for Shred?
Here are mine:
Deathly Distortion
Of course, then I have a graphic EQ with almost no mid tones after Shred.

RealLPC would be more like it. But then again, both of them sound a bit thin and too twangy compared to the originals. If deep sampling is what you're after, then Prominy LPC would do, I guess.
Then again, Matt Guillory doesn't use Orange Tree Samples without reason...

yes.bill45 wrote:Rick, Did you use guitar rig again? If so what components did you use?
I changed it up a bit from my last remix and tried different amps and distortions for the 'not one of us' remix. I'll pop open that file later and give you a run-down of what GR4 components I used for each guitar.
yep.Ninety9 wrote:Are all the guitars in them tracks produced with VSTs ? Impressive stuff either way
all vst's:
Superior Drummer, Electri6ity, Trilian, Massive, FM8, z3ta+, Absynth and Guitar Rig 4 Pro for the guitar amp sims and processing.

I think the Shreddage demos I have heard sound great.
Still, the problem for me is that Shreddage doesn't have a sound. It has the metal techniques, but the sound depends on what amp sims you put it through.
Same goes for any samples that are recorded direct.
So, it then all comes down to the amp sim as to what they will sound like.
For a wide range of styles, Electri6ity demos have sounded excellent.
For metal specific, Shreddage is much less expensive.

Well, the BEST thing about direct recorded guitars that they give you FLEXIBILITY. I find that much more important than having imprinted a particular distortion sound, and when you want something different you can literally go f**k yourself.

Yes, I completely agree.EvilDragon wrote:Well, the BEST thing about direct recorded guitars that they give you FLEXIBILITY. I find that much more important than having imprinted a particular distortion sound, and when you want something different you can literally go f**k yourself.
But it's much more than that: transitions using samples which are already amped (especially with a lot of distortion) won't never sound as good as DI samples trough an amp. Pre-amped samples also won't sound correctly, as soon as you are going to play chords which are based on single notes.
To make things short: electric guitar libaries NEED to be recorded DI. That's definitely the way to go. Nowadays there are SO many great freeware amps, so you won't even need to spend money to get good ones. But of course amps like GuitarRig for example will offer a lot more than only virtual guitar amps... I use GuitaRig for a lot of different effects (on vocals, drums, synthis, etc.)

also agree.. shaping your own, unique guitar sounds helps add a personal touch and depth you just can't get from pre-'amped' guitar samples. and playing chords and fast note/chord passages with sampled pre-amped stuff sounds totally ugly and wrong.dynamitec wrote:Yes, I completely agree... and, yes.. GR4 is very useful beyond just pure guitar amps and fx. it's what I used to get that 'public loudspeaker' effect on Gabriel's vocals for the "Not One Of Us" remix.

I wasn't advocating amped samples.
My point was that even if you hear demos of metal sound that you think sound great, there is no assurance that you will actually obtain that exact sound because it depends on so many variables like EQ, compression, amp sim, order of plugins, etc.

AcmeBarGig Shred is freeware, and it can give most commercial virtual amps a pretty decent run for their money. So yeah, you don't even have to run to the bank!

Logic Pro or that GB jam pack thet the guitars are on have the best metal guitar sounds, the mosh pit guitar is it, but it's au only...oh well.
Maybe the op is using a mac, not sure as the op hasn't posted a reply at all to any suggestion. I meant the newkidsonthecock.

Indeed... which is why we include amp sim presets with the library, and provide more free ones on our forumP.T. wrote:I wasn't advocating amped samples.

Bill: I would have to ask my guitarist what he used for the Bleed demo, but you could post that question at aforementioned forum as well.

Well, I'm just today putting the finishing touches on our upcoming Koto Nation library, so since that is now out of the way I can focus more on Shreddage 1.5 development. We've been experimenting with the best way to record + program true legato at the moment (tricky stuff...) while my guitarist has been finding the perfect gauge strings. He just did a test recording on them and all I have to say is.. wow. Ab is definitely happening.
Edit: OK, I'm told the Bleed amp was just TH-1. EQ pedal before the rectifier model, cutting lows and boosting mid-highs.
