That's a pretty moot point you make here. People ALWAYS make due with what they have, but when technology gives us better options people go with the better options. Everything else is called 'nostalgia', not 'common sense'.rifftrax wrote:Does nobody remember the 90's when mastering houses actually DID do everything in 16bit? You forget, that was the norm. Is there a sound problem on mixdown with FL Studio or not?

I suppose one could argue that, yes, they do go with the better options--if the thing is available to them. But, historically speaking, most programs back then did record in 16 bit. So he was not entirely off. As for the 'nostalgia' vs 'common sense' stuff---megh---could go with either interpretation here--crimsonwarlock wrote:That's a pretty moot point you make here. No, playback in Edison is just louder than if you play the same audio through a sampler at default levels. There's no difference in sound except volume.Dreamw wrote:Fruity loops has a unique sound cant get on anything else things sound better played in edison than exported.

As a lot of VA synth developers tried to make analog, hence slight drifting sound, we now CAN'T get silence when summing two rendered(one inverted) files from different DAW's(and even with the same). shut up NOW!
SO, please use for tests some old soft synths, they 100% static.
FL sounds good as my S1(and i made comparisons before the buy, as both are really great) Didn't see any differences.

just because recording technology gets more and more hi-def, our ears haven't evolved by the same degree, so a certain amount of the fidelity is purely academic. Gearwhores and posers will always want better better better, even though it's only bats that can hear the difference

Right, newbies want a Mega quality from start, as in commercial CD's.Jbravo wrote:just because recording technology gets more and more hi-def, our ears haven't evolved by the same degree, so a certain amount of the fidelity is purely academic. well commercial CDs are fairly low-fidelity compared to what's available nowadays (though perfectly adequate in my view)Igro wrote: Right, newbies want a Mega quality from start, as in commercial CD's.

I disagree - with over twenty years of experience as a sound engineer I think I can tell the difference between "quality" and "loudness". There is a distinct difference to my ears.Dionysos wrote:No, playback in Edison is just louder than if you play the same audio through a sampler at default levels. so this thread is still going?
maybe, but I coded both FL & Edison, they share the same sample playback class, they only differ in volume (0dB in Edison, as it's an audio editor) and default resampling quality (sinc in Edison, FL's sampler channel doesn't default to sinc but you can easily switch this) (assuming you were comparing samples of a samplerate different than your project's one).I disagree - with over twenty years of experience as a sound engineer I think I can tell the difference between "quality" and "loudness". We're being told that all the time, yet summing is still the same good old addition, which we can hardly improve.I wonder if theyve changed the sound engine a lot as I notice the
sound has changed in newer versions (i started on first version).

FLS 10 needs updated GUI, slightly bigger and with a little more highlights.tony tony chopper wrote:We're being told that all the time, yet summing is still the same good old addition, which we can hardly improve.
Then you will get comments that now it sounds bigger, fatter and with more presence.
And ... err .. a bigger GUI for Cytrus, please.
THERE IS ALWAYS A WORKAROUND

Cytrus? IL have a new synth out?
Oh, and I find FL's audio engine is acoustically esquisite, with hints of almond overtones, a lashing of rich audio porridge, and overwhelming puff of Hugo Boss.

I dont really use FL in the normal way - I use it as a live effects processor asn as a live tool with two patches or mor eplaying alongside each other - I cant handle the sequence at all and do all that in nuendo or acid or whatever. But fruity loops has an absolutely unique sound - I almost see it more as an instrument than a program. Perhaps the sound changing ove rthe years is in my mind - Im sure about the Edison thing though - maybe I need to change the export settings but I m pretty sure they are all set to "slow as hell".tony tony chopper wrote:so this thread is still going?
