I keep seeing this thread pop up from time to time. A quick check on the OT website doesn't seem to have any info on the progress of this. Nor, for that matter, are the beta patches, so I assume this thread is it. Will registered users get an email when the final update is announced?

Also, perhaps all the beta patch files could be listed on page one of this thread? Just sayin'...

Quick question on the installation of EEG. I'm on a Mac and after unarchiving the two files (EEGStrawberry-Engine & EEGStrawberry-Samples.part1, in that order) I'm left with the following directory structure:

./Evolution Electric Guitar - Strawberry/Documentation/
./Evolution Electric Guitar - Strawberry/Presets/
./Evolution Electric Guitar - Strawberry/Wallpaper/
./Evolution Electric Guitar - Strawberry-1/Samples/

I'm using a program called "The Unarchiver" and I'm guessing the "-1" was appended to the new folder name because it already exists (from unarchiving the engine files first) and the program didn't want to overwrite anything by accident. If that's the case, should I just move the Samples folder to same level where the Documentation, Presets, and Wallpaper folders reside (i.e., the first EEG directory)?

Okay, after getting a bunch of missing samples prompts, I think the correct directory structure is supposed to look like this? (Samples and Wallpaper folders inside the Presets folder)

Ahh, all you have to do is move the "Samples" folder to the root of "Evolution Electric Guitar - Strawberry". The samples RAR file is supposed to extract into that folder rather than add an "-1". So your structure should look like this:

Evolution Electric Guitar - Strawberry
>> Documentation
>> Presets
>> >> Lead
>> >> Rhythm
>> Samples
>> Wallpaper

I like the update as well. Well done!

Is it actually possible to do slow strums? I know you can adjust the strumming speed but I haven't found "real" slow strums yet. If there isn't a function like this, it's on my wish list for a further update. Would be cool to have some keys to trigger slow strums (just like palm mutes) as well...

Oh, I can make it so the strum speed can go even slower, if that would help.

Musiclab's guitars have a trigger function, so you can play fast strums and trigger a slow strum, which means being able to put even more variations in your strumming. I don't know if that is possible with Kontakt.

How does RealLPC or RealStrat compare to EEG? Anybody have both and compare realism and sound quality?

IMO, of the two MusicLab electric guitar VSTs, RealLPC sounds a lot better than RealStrat (which I recently sold), but Evolution Electric Guitar - Strawberry sounds leaps and bounds more realistic than RealLPC. Prior to the release of Evolution Electric Guitar, I thought RealStrat was the best option on the market, but once Evolution was released, it changed everything.

Listen to the demos of each of the products you mentioned for yourself, paying special attention to the non-distorted demos (it's easy to hide behind distortion) and play attention to changes and bends, where you often hear the weaknesses in the MusicLab stuff. I still have RealGuitar, and considering their recent fire sale, I'm guessing I can't get much for it anymore. I don't think the sampling or the player was at the same level as Orange Tree Samples libraries, however, I do think it was a cool product in its time with regards to the strumming options -- when RealGuitar and RealStrat came out, no one could touch them (again, IMO, of course). They were innovative products and it would be nice to see MusicLab innovate once again. I think RealGuitar has been around for what must be almost ten years with little in the way of change beyond a larger midi library (2L, which I own).

Right now, Evolution Electric Guitar - Strawberry is the guitar simulation to beat and I suspect it will be the same story when the acoustic guitar, Evolution Acoustic Guitar - Steel String, is released. It's really astounding how realistic this stuff sounds. It's good enough to be used in actual production -- which while RealStrat was decent for it's time, it wasn't something you'd use in a final production.

If you want to boil it down, Orange Tree Samples has better samples (and different samples for chords and single notes), as well as samples that create a realistic effect (AKA dirt or noises you would hear with a real guitarist that happen at the appropriate times), a good deal of articulations and combines all of that with innovative scripting to make the library come alive. So, it's not really simply a matter of just having better samples or just better scripting or just "more dirt" to simulate a real performance -- it's a combination of all of those elements that makes Evolution so realistic.

(FTR, I've given Greg and given several other guitar and bass Kontakt sample developers marketing advice. I'm a major user of this stuff and have been for more than a decade, starting with soundfonts, then VirtualGuitarist, Slayer, etc.)

Thanks for the reply. Thats pretty much the vibe i was getting. I assume the Vir2 Electri6ity is up there with evolution but that is also way over my budget. I was tempted by Chris Hein but have heard that the quality of the samples is a bit dated also.

I think waiting for Evolution Acoustic is my best bet. I already own EEG.

I think Electri6ity sounds a little better than RealLPC, but it's definitely not at the same level of realism as Evolution. Listen to the demos without all the distortion.

However, one thing I do love about Electri6ity is the guitars they selected. I would love it if Orange Tree Samples/Greg could sample those same guitar models with Evolution-level quality. That would be sampled guitar Heaven for me.

Yep. The Musiclab products are extremely playable and use only little disc space. When applying distortion they work well in a production. However, the sounds are not as good as Evolution Guitar.
I'm really looking forward to the acoustic addon as the sounds of Real Guitar are outdated, yet it is the best acoustic guitar you can get at the moment.
