Not a VST software so am posting this in this forum:
Notation is as the name suggests a notation software that I have found does some nice MIDI file rendering. they are running a recession special where you choose up to 50% off their paid for products:
http://www.notation.com/
Wouldn't say it was a software I would like to do all my composition in, but like I say does a nice quick MIDI render and has some other interesting/useful features.

Maybe consider posting in the Bargain Center (bargains only, please; use gossip thread for chat) thread also.

Because I'm totally new with the notaton softwares - but have considered one for some time - does the MIDI rendering here mean in practice, that I can
take e.g. inside Live8 created MIDI file, import that to the Notation, which
converts the MIDI file to the note sheet? Harry

Scratch this. I was confusing it with Notion, which is different notation software.

Will do..jensa wrote:Maybe consider posting in the Bargain Center (bargains only, please; use gossip thread for chat) thread also.
Yes, if I have got you right. There are demos of their products via the link above to test. Before you shell out though it might be worth looking around for some freeware that might do what you are after aswell. I only posted this one as I like the program and it was worth the discount to me.Because I'm totally new with the notaton softwares - but have considered one for some time - does the MIDI rendering here mean in practice, that I can

Does the Notation something the (freeware) MuseScore doesn't?
I have a picture that the MuseScore DOESN'T import external MIDI file
and convert that to notes. That's why I asked my previous question - I didn't find this feature presented e.g. in the Notation video presentation.
Once again: those who are familiar with the Notation, I'd like to know if I can import e.g. MIDI file created in the Live 8 and create in that way a score sheet? (I wish this is enough clearly stated question -I'm happy to
complete that). H.

I just tried MuseScore and was able to import a random MIDI file in a similar way that you can with Notation.
i.e. File menu --> open etc.

OK, are they therefore equally good?
BTW, I did one short test with the MuseScore MIDI import,
I got a program message that 1/16 notes are the shortest
which can be imported to the MuseScore, can this be correct? H.

When trying MuseScore it crashed on me so I did not give it an extensive test so can not really comment on it. I really suggest you try the demo's of different notation softwares and see what is good for you.Harry_HH wrote:OK, are they therefore equally good?

I can tell you that I picked up Notation as it seems fairly lightweight (as in it will load up quickly), and also will split right/ left hands into a grand staff nicely (a feature I wanted). The scores are also nicely readable to me.
There is a list of payed for notation softwares reviewed here, which you may like to demo before shelling out any money:

BTW, when trying to instal the demo, I my OS (Win 7 64 bit) keep giving
a note that Windows can't instal the product, no matter if I'm locked
in as ad administrator to my computer. Same thing with both of the Notation (demo) versions. No other program/demo has behaved like this for me (and I have about 120 programs installed to my computer). Only the virus-polluted
files gives sometimes this kind of blocking effect. Harry

Got the same OS (Win 7 64 bit) here with no probs like that. I would email the devs or ask on their forum if you want to. I am not affiliated with the software so can not help I'm afraid..Harry_HH wrote: BTW, when trying to instal the demo, I my OS (Win 7 64 bit) keep giving

Being logged in as admin is not enough, everything is executed default as user anyway.Harry_HH wrote:

If having problems like this I would ensure rightclicking and starting installfile "Run as administrator".
Or possibly turn of UAC alltogether in you machine.
This is from Vista/W7 OS if I remember correctly.

i'm thinking about getting Notion SLE (Mir.Philh.). If you think the two (Notion SLE & Notation Composer) are comparable, i would like to hear your comments...

I have both (Full versions) and I haven't really delved into notation enough yet to compare. I am currently using notation as a quick renderer of MIDI clips.AnalogDevice wrote:i'm thinking about getting Notion SLE (Mir.Philh.). I will say about Notion that the interface is nice on the eyes and in some ways it is very polished. In other ways it still has a way to go for usablity IMHO.
There is a demo available here to check out (the non SLE version)
