I wanted to play those new 8-string guitars(extra low F# and B), so I bought a pack of DR strings, made for detuning, the low E is 65! Compared to- usually, an E is 38 or 42.
The low string doesn't fit all the way down in the nut, but stays as I play. I have it tuned to low F#. Easily turns to mud, I had to use a bass amp sim with a treble booster to get a good low end chunk sound.
Worth the $7 I paid, Musicians's Friend had free shipping with no minimum purchase.

I have a .70 (Drop-G, Drop-A are usual/normal for me) on most of my six strings already. Although i have to buy each string seperately due to taste RBR but its worked fine for me for a good few years nowRunBeerRun wrote:I wanted to play those new 8-string guitars(extra low F# and B), so I bought a pack of DR strings, made for detuning, the low E is 65! I've never owned any pedals before, but now I have two!: got a really good deal on a Digitech Death Metal pedal, and found this on Ebay and couldn't resist--

All I need is a good fuzz, and my distortion needs should be well met. Now to save (and save) for that Boss Roland Space Echo and an Electro-Harmonix Nano Small Stone... and a wah, I've always wanted to try one of those.

The Jim Dunlop Hendrix wahs are really nice. And built like the proverbial 8D

Hmmm Effects.
If you like Reverbs the T.C. Electronics Nova is really nice.
I also have a Joe Meek Floor-Q compressor this I like also. A bonus is the built in pre-amp. The pre has plenty of headroom.

I ended up with a Tone Works AX3G signal processor plus a very cheapo guitar for modding purposes.

Forget the Space Echo. I just picked up a Strymon El Capistan, and it's amazing. They sell out very quickly, so you'll have to be quick to buy one.hivefleetmegalon wrote:Now to save (and save) for that Boss Roland Space Echo and an Electro-Harmonix Nano Small Stone... and a wah, I've always wanted to try one of those.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

Strymon delay and reverbs are class (have not tried other than the Bluesky and the other i can not remember its name
) but yeah suply/demand is like deastman said. From Shoegaze/Post rock shimmers to mental frozen-type delayed self-oscillating punishment they do it with style and class IMO. Not that Boss's RE201 pedal is bad but the COSM technology is not much like an original unit, well it was a decent pedal but not a WOW moment
(IMHO, FWIW and YMMV). TC Nova Delay or Eventide's TimeFactor are great deluxe digital delay pedals, even the Digitech Hardwire-Series Delay is up thier with Boss's DD-5/DD-7 i think and the verb has some good sounding Lexicon algos within also. All worth trying out before pulling the trigger

I'm glad I'm not a pedal junkie because:
a. I couldn't afford it. All the thousands of cash I've spent enforcing this habbit is a fraction of what I'd spend on pedals
b. I'd never really be able to try before I buy
We've got GC and they only have the common variety stuff. I'd want all the expensive/esoteric goodies
c. I can't bug the neighbors with my howling, so I'd probably never get to use them

I'm not because of 9volt batteries. Rechargeable ones are crap for output. Nonrechargable ones are crap for the environment. Wallwarts are pia if you have to use them live. Ya'd think stomp box manufactuers would get a clue and use easy-charge batteries like those made for cellphones/laptops.

made from parts scatterred over more than 20 years
ESP body from early 80's late 70's
Hardware from an old Kramer (including gold schallers and an early 80s floyd rose)

Painted by a friend around 2000 this guitar got very scratched up, since EVH already used frankenstein meet "Scar Face". I will scratch it up some more to make the gouge look like a scar with stitches using my dremel.
The neck is the tele neck I removed to build my baritone with the logos sanded off and either I'll put the original EMG 81 that was in it (again early 80s) which is now in my Warmoth (I'd buy a new 81 for the Warmoth) or buy a Duncan Blackout for it (I'm interested in trying one). I also have an EMG PA2 pre amp for it .
One nice feature is the recessed heel joint, that makes this guitar very nice for soloing.

This guitar once had a jackson style warmoth neck but hasn't been assembled since the mid 90's. Instead of routing the neck for the rose nut (which of course would be easy for me to do) I'm putting the gold rose locking nut behind the nut ala Kahler just to make it a little more fugly.
When will it be done?

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Nice Hink
frankensteinin' mate
Yes the new X-Range of EMG's (So now its X-81) are good, have more headroom and also love the 18v 'mod' much more also but hell so are S.Duncan's Blackouts, Even the lowly Duncan Designed Actives 101's on my Schecter are excellent sounding which i was not expecting for the money. The Mick Thompson models in particular are superb (yeah he plays down-tuned chunky metal with a boiler suit and mask on
but it don't mean the tools won't translate but you know that already). Guess it is a great excuse to go find some guitars with them fitted (well with the EMG you can just drop one in on the fly in-store) and test the candidates out if possible
On the guitar front, not a guitar as such but i scored a Marshall JMP-1 for £200 today, pretty much perfect condition as it was used in someone's studio rack only, a friend bought the guy's rack for £1000 for some rack synth modules and did not have any use for the JMP-1. I am rather happy with that one
Keep us posted on that Kramer-Baritone-HinKaster if you do not mind. I love it/the concept is just screaming 'Yes that is will sound collusus' to me and i am looking forward to how it turns out my friend
All the best to all and take care
