I'll repost it here:

"I'm just using guitar rig for all my guitar stuff.

the best advice I can give for configuring GR.. start simple. load up a distortion, amp head & cabinet. I usually use control room.

turn everything on the distortion unit down, or off.. and start turning up stuff on it, little by little. on some setups I barely have most knobs on the distortion up over 2. the thing that usually gets set the highest are the mid-range knob settings. generally 50-75%.

try to get a punchy mute with just that very basic setup. in electri6ity, tweak the pre-amp till you get a warm, punchy tone.

from there I start tweaking mic's in GR's control room, again.. favoring the warmer mic's. start adding eq's into the chain to boost bass and treble tones.

finally, I start adding fx into the chain to add some depth.

I'm still learning all this stuff myself as well.. designing guitar tones feels a lot like synth, patch design. once you get a feeling for the basics, it's starts to become easier to get the sounds you're looking for."

@dynamitec - Thanks Benjamin for reposting the link for me. I took the summer off from writing music, too much going on, but now I'm diving into Electri6ity at full force and am loving it. Thanks for listening. I am going to try and get a tone that I like before I proceed with more tunes.

@progtronic - Thanks Rick for the info. That helps a lot. I did see your post on Cakewalk but didn't reply yet. I was posting from work and was being discreet as much as possible . Man... I can't believe that I totally missed the preamp in Electri6ity. I just turned it on and wow what a difference already. Now I'll start working on my own presets. Thanks again for your help, man. The used FX are all freeware (except the screamer from Guitar Rig which can be replaced by a freeware version). You can download them here (Windows only):

Now simply load up the MIDI, do the timing corrections load the tweaked Electri6ity multi (you need to have Electri6ity installed, though) and setup the chain as shown in the picture above.

If you want to use your own Electri6ity instrument with that MIDI make sure you switch the morphing from velocity to modwheel (Performance Page => Setup, last button on the buttom).

I would like to warmly recommend SimulAnalog's FREE Ibanez Screamer emulation. It is topnotch (I find it much better than the one in GR4)!

Yep! The whole guitar suite is awesome! Shame they have no GUI. Dunno if I could use SkinMan to GUIfy those...

I'm still having a hell of a time trying to get good guitar tones for my tunes. I'm just lousy at this . It's either not crunchy enough or too fuzzy. LOL. I was able to replicate the tone in the tutorial, which sounds good, but applying it to my tunes it sounds awful. I don't know anything about guitar signal chains. I have some research to do.

I'll keep at it... till I bang my head against the wall repeatedly

Do your tunes differ from Benjamin's.For longer notes , notes in higher
rejisters and chords Cut back on the treble and distortion a little bit.
also try a wah for leads. I am getting some good results with ramfire.

Find the settings for his blues rock and paganinni demos, things will become
clearer for use, those sounded awesome!

In Starless Night, the rhythm guitars just aren't biting enough. With the Rock Guitar in Kontakt 4 routing through just Guitar Rig, I am able to get biting guitars but obviously the Rock Guitar pales in comparison to Electri6ity.

I'll keep the tweaking going, I have to nail it sooner or later

I checked out the Rammfire demos and it sounds awesome. I love Rammstein too so that helps. . I am eventually going to upgrade to Komplete 7, which includes Rammfire, but I decided to say screw it and buy it now so I can download and install it immediately.

I'm getting better results but I think I have an idea of what I'm doing wrong. I think when it comes down to it I'm just not EQing shit properly. I decided to load up some Rammfire presets then I added a parametric EQ and carved a large portion of mids out and a modest boost in lows and highs, and now I'm getting much better results. Time to grab a bite to eat then get to work on making my own presets...!
