Mr. Wobble 1 is wonderful, hakey! Thanks for sharing your talents with all of us. PM sent for Mr. Wobble 2!

If I'm allowed to disagree, I don't fully understand this PM thing for bank 2.

I have downloaded bank 1, not yet used much because I don't have much time currently. The PM need almost suggests that the banks were released to get consensus and opinions in exchange. I can agree only partially: I also happen to release things publicly, but I don't constraint anybody to do something in exchange.

Of course, opinions and feedbacks - best if good and nice - are welcome, but why "penalizing" the silent crowd?

And yes, I know a PM is free, but, even though just in theory, I'm not sure it's the best thing for a sort of gift to the community.

Probably I'm wrong, please don't flame but consider this a practice about freedom of speech :)

Thanks a lot,
Mario

Thanxs 4 the b@nk$ Hakey.

@Mabian: you have a point, though I thinks I understand hakey.

I feel that hakey got disappointed because he didn't get many reactions on his freely given banks on which he likely spent a lot of time and dedication.
That's why he only wanted to share his second bank with people who showed at least some gratitude (hakey, correct me if I'm wrong).

While people's appreciation of bank 1 may have started to appear a bit artificial by this, there's no need to be dishonest. If one is not very much impressed with his first bank, yet curious about the 2nd, a simple 'thanks for sharing :)' will do I guess. I always appreciate it when a developer freely shares a pluging or preset bank, regardless if I like the product or not. That's why a 'thanks' is almost always suited.

Nevertheless I wouldn't trade a free patch bank for anything either. I would offer it and maybe ask about people's opinion on it, and then leave it free for comments.

No, the original idea was to only give the bank to those who had *previously* gone to the trouble of thanking me for the first bank - it was a thank you from me to them.

I then got a number of PMs from people who were not amongst the first group requesting the link. I decided, fair enough, I'll just give the bank to anyone who - politely - asks for it.
why "penalizing" the silent crowd?

Why give something to someone who either doesn't value it, or doesn't value it enough to say thanks?

Thanks for clarification.

Hey Hakey,

I downloaded this one ages ago but I was in the middle of building a new machine at the time and have just got round to trying them out. Some really nice sound design in there, you should be proud.

And I hear what you're saying, it's about recognition for the time, effort and knowledge that went in making the bank and that's understandable.

Keep up the good work ;)

 try again...

(or else you'll be off my Christmas card list :hihi: )

Simply because it's a (free) gift to everybody...

When I release something, I don't have any expectations on the feedback.

I ask for it, but if it doesn't come it's okay anyway.

That said, I don't mean to say what's right or wrong, I guess it's simply different point of views.

For example, I could absolutely PM saying "wow your bank is freaking awesome" and get the download link.
I prefer to stay coherent and express my point (of course I think I have one).

I have recently made available a free PDF, with hundreds downloads.
I got about a dozen thank posts or so, but this won't make me stop releasing new things for free when I want. Every thank post makes me happier, same as you I guess.

And, surely the effort taken for building a sound bank is in no way comparable to one to put up a PDF with third party content, but it's all about the concept.

We're all different :)

It's not even that - it's really more about attempting to reward the 'decent' people (by which I mean the kind of folk I imagine I might get on with IRL) whilst not rewarding the lazy, entitlement, freeloading fringe.

I know, it might not in practice work out as I planned, but they're my patches, I'll give them out as I so choose.

No Christmas card??? Ai, let's get it clear and strait then: :D

1. You made a great bank for Synth1.
2. Several people spontaneously showed you they are impressed by it and they thanked you for it.
3. Point 2. made you happy and you rewarded those who took the 'effort' to message you by sending them an extra (otherwise non-public) bank.
4. Other people also got interested in bank2 though they didn't sent you a message of appreciation for bank1 before.
5. You started to become generous enough to share bank2 for everyone who shows their appreciation.
6. People who don't thank you in advance have no access to bank2, so they are excluded unless they send you a message in return. Still some kind of 'trade', yet understandable from your point of view.

I have no problems with this approach. Now I make my definite point: you've got a point and Mabian still has one too. ;)

And meanwhile I enjoy Mr. Wobles presets :)

No, really I hear ya. I try and help out around here quite alot. If someone's having trouble with a sound or the theory behind a technique, if they can't come back with a simple thanks it annoys me.

There's definitely a freeloader mentality with a certain group on the internet, just out for what they can get with no consideration to the process behind it.

Like you say it's your time and effort that went into making the banks and I see no issue with only giving them out to the 'decent folks' although in an ideal world you wouldn't have to stipulate anything.

The point is manners go along way. Patches are a gift. Really, how hard is it to type 6 letters? T-h-a-n-k-s....
