Cytomic 'The Glue' Compressor

Hi PeterL - the Range knob is meant for exactly how you are using it, to prevent over compression in a very natural sounding way. It gives what I think is a much better sounding alternative to simple parallel compression.
I can't go into technical details as to how it works as it is a trade secret, but the method is actually a modification to the original circuit design that I have modeled along with the rest of the circuit. As an end user it is hopefully enough to know that the Range knob effects both how transients sound as well as being a hard limit on total compression depth.
I feel the best way to use it is to set the Range knob to Full and dial in a slightly harder compression than you actually want, then adjust the Range knob till the compression is eased off to what you want. You can then fine tune the Threshold to get the needle moving and bouncing up and down as much as possible.

In 2 days time, The Glue, you shall be mine!!!!
Mouhahahaha...
Why 2 days? It's my birthday, and I anticipate getting the usual (and highly appreciated) $100 from my mom
Gonna get the Glue with it and I'll even have $1 left over for a bagel. I've been using the demo for the past few days on all sorts of material and.. wow
I've been using Stillwell's the rocket demo for a few months now (without buying it) and I didn't think it would be fair for me to get The Glue and keep using Rocket for free, so I also just got The Rocket and that's my birthday present to myself.
It was great testing a bunch of compressors side by side these last few days. I really got a feel for the type of sound they each produce by roughly matching settings and running different types of material through them.
My list of favorites:
#1 The Glue
#2 The Rocket
#3 Bombardier
#4 Major Tom
Eventually I want to own all 4 of these. Can't wait to see what other stuff Andy comes up with..

Thanks for the appreciation! Continued positive feedback like this really helps raise awareness of The Glue with people on kvr that haven't heard of it yet.elwood wrote:I've been using The Glue basically *on everything* since I got it a few months back and I love it! Good work Andy / Cytomic. What's up next?
I've started work on a new plugin, but I'm keeping quiet about what it is for now. I'll post news and audio demos as soon as it's nearing completion

Andy can you give insight on what the reading on the range knob means? For example if it's set at "-40" what does that mean exactly?

It's best not to bother analysing this too much other than to know it limits the compression applied to the level shown in a very natural sounding way. You are best off using it and listening to what it does to get a feel for it. I suggest trying the slowest attack time, and the fastest release time and slowly reduce the Range knob from Full to -10 dB and listen to how the sound changes.futurefields wrote:Andy can you give insight on what the reading on the range knob means? So the numbers mean nothing?
I understand the function, trust me. I just feel like a db readout would make more sense, so for example you could say "I want the gain reduction to top out at 10db" or what have you...

The numbers are in dB, dialing in -20 dB means that there will be no gain reduction more than -20 dB. If you hover over the The Range knob with your mouse you will see the current value including the dB units show below the knob.futurefields wrote:So the numbers mean nothing?

How do you get "oversampling mode" in v1.0.18 ??meloco_go wrote:Cannot praise Glue high enough.
Also, oversampling mode on v1.018 really changed things for the better (well, may be this one is expectation bias)

You can already switch on x2 oversampling in v1.0.18, but it is officially not supported yet as it requires more testing. Have a look at the "Settings.xml" file which is located next to your Presets folder. You can open a browser at this folder using the menu command "Show Preset Folder" from inside The Glue. With a text editor you can change the line:
<Tuple Key="OversampleRealtime" Value="Off"/>
to
<Tuple Key="OversampleRealtime" Value="x2"/>
then reload your song and all instances of The Glue will be oversampled.

finally bought a copy after demo'ing a couple of versions,.. had been wanting to a while, and now with our aus dollar around parity with the $US (it usually hovers around 75%) there were no excuses!
thanks-nice tip re/ the oversampling too, just did the 'mod' !
