Let's pick some of them to have a brief look at:
Patch Browser

Direct access to more than 30 soundbanks, central saving location, easy creation of custom new banks, temporary and fixed browsing lists, smoothed patch change.
Effects Unit

Included effects unit featuring handy quick presets, one-button switch off, delay synchronizeable to song and arpeggiator in even, triple and dotted mode.
Dual Engine Processing

Switchable dual engine effects processing for effects finishing even after preset change. We're not sure if this has been realized before in a VSTi.
New Arpeggiator

A completely new arpeggiator/MIDI processor featuring 32 different modes including all standard up/down/up&down, input and pitch order, plus step sequencer, chord hold, preset chords, note record and double mode, all modes morphable in realtime. Some of them:

Arpeggio hold and sequencer start/stop can be applied by the damper pedal for hands free operation.
Relative and fetched MIDI CC response (Switchable)

We've heard someone telling this is not possible to do in a VSTi. So we did it. Say goodbye to annoying value jumps using non-endless controllers. We even offer two different modes: Relative and fetched. Relative: Value changes are only added or subtracted. Fetched: A GUI control only starts to move when its value is overridden.
Continuous Two-Stage Parameter Control

Something that already could be done using VST automation now can be done directly on the GUI. Some of the most important two-stage button parameters like oscillator and noise levels and all tuning buttons now optionally can be regulated continuously by clicking into the text label and dragging the mouse vertically. Small popping up number displays will show the current value.
Bend Modes

While the familiar 2/12 button still can be used as before, you additionally can access 32 different bend modes by clicking into the small number display above and dragging the mouse vertically. Apart from the standard intervals (1-12 semitones) there are 3 ultra-wide modes (2,3,4 octaves), several assymetric modes (e.g. 1 semitone up, 2 down) plus some modes that map filter cutoff or bending to the modulation lever. For easy access the modes can be remotely switched using just one CC controller.
Multi-functional buttons

Several buttons got multi-functional to map new features into them. The new stages are shown by changing LED color, like e.g. blue.
Extended Separate Voice Design
The voice allocation unit has been completely re-written and has been linked to the voice mute section so that voices not only can be muted, but completely deactivated, so that the voices are only allocated within the active voices. This allows for custom polyphony with any voice of choice involved, and this both in polyphonic and unison mode. The new continuous detuning control and one-click trimpot calibration gives you the last remaining options for complete control of all detunings in every tiny detail.
CPU consumption
Using all voices and many modulations CPU consuption of course is quite a bit higher than the one of OP-X PRO, but for patches using only six voices including all former sounds it's only marginally higher. Nevertheless old Pentium 4 CPUs are not recommended anymore, although using just 1-2 instances works well on a P4 3Ghz machine, but not more. For multiple instances use more modern CPUs like Core 2 Duo or i5/i7. On a Core i7 CPU consumption is only still about 1-2% per instance.
Here's a short example for reference. Core i7 920 @ 2,66gHz, HT on, Windows 7 64bit, Cubase 5.0.1 (32bit), HDSP 9632 @ 256 samples, 7 instances of OP-X PRO-II, which shows a load of about 7-9% in the task manager:
Mac users
For Mac users we have a specially adapted VFX only version that can be run in the newest beta version of the SM Pro Audio VFX application with lowered price because this way of using has some limitations compared to using an au plugin. But it works very well and audio can be recorded to a sequencer track using the free SoundFlower. Installation is as fast and easy as the one of the PC version.
